cingular rep who wants to call a truce

Hello Verizon,

I have been working as a sales rep for Cingular for 2 years now and it always seems to be "cingular vs verizon". Its understandable, we are the two biggest carriers out there. I get more Verizon ports than any other carrier just as im sure you guys get more Cingular ports than any other carrier.

When people come in and ask me "who really gets better coverage cingular or verizon?" I always answer the same "well mr/mrs customer, it depends on where you are, and where you are going"

Lets, as rivals, agree on a few things.

1. Our coverage is pretty much neck and neck. Independet research A may say Verizon has the best network while independent research B may say Cingular does. But lets just concede that we are ...

I think VZW actually gets more port in from Nextel. Port Ratio is 7:1 and we consider the 1 out will return within 2 week.

I must admit that when I was in Los Angeles last summer, I was in dismay when my Verizon didn't work but cingular and sprint did at our hotel. I think Verizon has the edge nationwide in the quality of our network. I have experienced this in other areas across the nation, and particularly down south.

I don't really think T=mobile has the edge in handsets. I think it is pretty even amongst the carriers. I can't think of a Cingular phone I wish Verizon had. I do wish we had the sidekick from T-mobile, but the update to the 9800 will fix that problem for me.

I used to work at Tmobile, and we did give credits, phones, and bonus minutes away. If they had bad customer service, they wouldn't have customers because the service was horrible...

cingular reps will never admit that verizon just has a better overall network. me being a vzw rep will admit that cingular does have service where verizon doesn't but it goes both ways.
i work in the MD,VA,DC area and only thing that works on are metro system is vzw and thats huge at here most of my ports are as follows 55% cingular, 40% sextel and 5% t-mobile.
vzw cs is the best nor is cingulars, niether companys have to give stuff away to get or keep customers
why vzw is the best....good phones....good plans str8 forward pricing and good policys
so like i said NO PEACE

*giggles* Although Nextel and Sprint are kinda in the same boat. I guess it really depends on the customer. And their calling areas.

Ok..lets see..Seattle huh.

West Seattle HAD VZW Analog Coverage and now where you had Analog towers covering the beach the digital phones get NO SERVICE, where Cingular gets service now.

And out here in Bellevue the Crossroads area is a KNOWN VZW trouble spot, where coverage is IFFY at BEST, and the "known trouble spot" came from a VZW tech!! Cingy's got three towers behind the crossroads mall, ensuring better coverage out here. Plus cingy's data works on all their towers. (Hates when he's brwoing the net and the phone switches to 1xRTT cus here..thats a No Data Digital service.)

One thing, Cingular is WILLING to show where they have problem areas in the coverage maps and the MTi Map Tool (with their towers), VZW doesn't do that....

Truce? I don't get it...are we fighting?

Let's face the REAL fact that we are competitors. We ALL sell against the "competition". It is HOW we sell against each other that matters. A professional rep will educate their customer to the best of their ability about coverage, offers, and the technical aspects of wireless service and devices.

I don't really understand your point. We could argue all day long about who has better coverage, customer service, etc...but the bottom line is that we all believe that our company is the best. Why do we have to be friends to do our job? Making friends with the competition doesn't put money in our pockets. 🙄

well well well mr sigman. well written. but a truce for what? like others i never knew we were at war with each other. facts are facts we are better all around. we know it our customers and yours even know it. YOU even said it yourself to business week among others. but if you see it as a war maybe thats the reason for the propaganda your company uses. the fake testimonials in emails, false advertising, etc, etc. it all makes sense now. i have never seen it as a war sir. if it was a war what we would do is make commercials with pictures of cingular reps using OUR aircards to do activations on their laptops in malls. but its not a war and we dont stoop to cingulars level. just a thought. 🙂

Why quote Mr Sigman on something he said more than a year and a half ago? 🙄 Our network has made a lot of improvements since then. And Mr Sigman never said that Verizon was better than Cingular. He said that his vision was to have a network just as reliable as Vz's (if not better) He admited that there was a lot to be done (improvements) and we are working on them. Our churn numbers reflect our work and money invested on our network, and even though network integration is not complete (and it won't be until late next year) we are giving Verizon a run for its money.

Yay! for T-Mobile! ;-)

I agree on the point of your message, almost all of the carriers are basically the same except for one or two things which may make them "different" and better for certain people, but none are the best for everyone.
(except SunCom 'cause they have everything LOL)

What's funny is the other day a customer with a recently disconnented account called. The customer said Yeah my phones aren't working. I explained that they disconnected with VZW, and they said... not my VZW phones, my Cingular phones. A Cingular Rep transferred me to you so you could help. I had to verify and ask why they transferred their customer to us. They explained it was something with the port. I explained we no longer have their numbers and it should be in Cingular's hands. Just seems odd a Cingular rep would just transfer the customer to us.

No lie, Cingular must have thought we didn't give up the Mobile Telephone Numbers to port so they transferred to us. Although it would have been nice if they troubleshooted the call further or contacted their port department (if they have one) or even our port department, heck it would have been nice if they stayed on the line to assist their customer.

I wonder if this was our (my store's) customer? NO LIE they ported to VZ (their company has over 40 lines with us) and the employee changed his mind about porting his Cingular(it was his personal line). He made this decision an hour after the port was complete. We, VZW, reversed the port, Cingular told us that they were in the process of re-activating the number for him. 3 DAYS LATER the phone was still inactive. Customer calls our store to scream about it not being active. We call VZW and they confirm the line was released to Cingular. We tell the customer it is out of our hands and to call Cingular. He calls Cingular and ends up being conferenced from Cingular to Verizon. Customer comes into the store after no resolution on the conference ...

good question...just unfortunate that these people were told time and time again that it was our fault...pass the buck...maybe the people on the left side of the call center need to meet the right side people...you know, it seems the left hand doesn't know the right hand type of thing
