Alltel's Days are numbered

I believe Alltel will one day be purchased by the great and mighty VERIZON WIRELESS. The way the Cellular Industry is going, I believe there will only be three or four major carriers! I know Verizon will be one and also Cingular and Sprint. So enjoy T-Mobile and USCC while they last!

But I do believe Alltel will bow down to the GREAT and MIGHTY VERIZON WIRELESS

Five cellular players may be too many for the U.S., as scale and scope become even more important to survival

Just a few years ago, Cingular Wireless was the lumbering giant of the U.S. wireless business. It just couldn't seem to keep up with rival Verizon Wireless (VZ).

My, how things have changed. On Apr. 26, Cingular announced that revenues for the first quarter were up a solid 7%, to $8 billion. More surprising, Cingular said that its customer defection rate was 1.7%, or about half of what it was in the past. "Cingular is on a roll," says wireless analyst John M. Celentano of researcher Capex Alert.

Despite what the article says, I think lots of peeps would be unhappy if the industry just consolidated down to a pair of supergiants: Verizon-Sprint-Alltel-US Cellular vs Cingular-T-Mobile-Cellular One, whatever. Two carriers ain't enough choice. Look at how high your cable bill is to see what I mean... even dish services don't keep those guys in check, what you'd need is several big cable companies available in most markets all kicking each other's heads in 24-7 😑

Fo' myself, I'd like ta see Alltel merge with US Cellular or something, rather than try to cut a deal with VZW or Sprint. I also think a Cing-Tmobile merge is a bad call... VZW, Cing, and Sprint-Nextel are all more than big enough to do what needs to be done network- and t...

You want 500 Anytime minutes over there, you pay 50 British pounds... which is about $90 American!!! 😳 😒 😳

So yeah, minutes over there are WAY more expensive.

how do the regionals like metro pcs fit into your scenario? are they popular enough with the local folk to survive an industry shake-out, as you have forecast for Alltel, T-Mob?

Their will always be a market for small nitch providers. As M&A’s happen, the nationals will be forced to divest spectrum. That’s where your start-ups and regional carriers come into play.
