I am looking to get a new phone, currently have the Droid 2. However I am noticing that some of the smart phones I am interested in (Samsung Facinate) are coming with Bing search engine and Bing Maps instead of Google. I just read an article on the LG Revolution and was excited until it states the Bing issue. Why is VZ (or who ever is doing this) giving Bing as default on a Droid phone. I did call VZ and they states you cannot make Google the default you'll just have to look up google- too much work! Is this going to be a trend?
Any intel on this is appreciated. Thanks all!!!

P.S. tried the Thunderbolt but speaker was not that loud and the ring notifications sort of sounded all the same so trying to change a notification ring for ema...

Microsoft paid Verizon $$$$ to put bing as the default on a number of Android devices. If you want to avoid bing, any of the Droid branded phones will not have it.

And moving from a Droid 2 to a Fascinate is not much of a change.

There are plenty of things I hate about my Fascinate but Bing isn't one of them. I thought it would drive me nuts when I first bought it, because I do hate Bing.

My solution : bookmark Google in the browser and put a shortcut to it on the home screen. I only use the "magnifying glass" search button to search local content on my device like contacts. If I want to search the web, I hit the Google bookmark icon instead.

It's literally so easy to avoid Bing that I can safely say it doesn't feel like "crippling " at all. It's a total non-factor for any of my future phone purchases.

I have the Thunderbolt and my text and email notifications are different, and the volume is plenty loud. Oh, and no Bing, either.

I chose the Droid Charge because of the physical buttons for search, back, home, and menu, and the other reason I chose the Charge is the Super AMOLED display.

An extendwd battery should be here sometime today, 2600mah, YEAH!!!

I did look into the Charge but the Phonescoop reviews state that the phone feels like cheap plastic, call quality is not so good and the Samsung updates are lacking. So I shyed away from this one. And yes the AMOLED is an awesome screen with great color.

Reguarding the cheap plastic: I have a case on it that has a kickstand on the back. So I can really comment on tge plastixky feel since I have a case on it.

Reguarding call quality: No complaints thus far. I've had mine since last friday.

Reguarding updates: To me, the most import update was 2.2, whixh brought the ability to store apps to memory card, thats importabt to me. I'm happy with where Android currently is with 2.2

Plus Google is working with phone makers to get updates out quicker.
