Couple Of Questions and Couple Of Rants
Now my rants....For the past few years or however long Android's been around I keep open source this and open source that but why is it when Verizon gets a new Android handset they are constantly putting their Verizon VCAST crap al...

Regarding Gingerbread coming to droid phones I expect it will vary depending on the model and carrier. There's a rumor on phonedog.com that Gingerbread may come to the Thunderbolt and Incredible in "Q2", but who knows? The lesson I takeaway from the "updates" business is I had better make sure that the next phone I get does everything I want it to right out of the box. It's enough to wait for the phone I want - I'm not going to then wait for additional updates LOL.

Well first off I would never come on here and bash Verizon Wireless, since I came from hating ATT/Cingular with a passion it was a no brainer to switch and have never regretted it ever since. First things first. I've had the Drioid X for sometime now. I have started running into issues with roaming in that When not on a call it roams into 3G and then when I get a phone call it drops 3G and I am roaming. Can't explain why, I did the *228 to update my roaming capabilities but that didn't help the situation.
You don't use voice over 3g. All phone calls on the droid x are done over the 1x radio. Once your call is done, the need for 1x is over and it goes back to 3g.

As far as bloatware goes, its there. It happens on all carriers. If it is truly an irritant, use the open ended nature of the software and get rid of it.
I'm not sure if you understand the definition of open ended software. "To me if your wanting open source, thats great with all of the freedom it provides and the market that comes along with it..." is not the definition of open ended software, thats the definition of android.
If you're not willing to root the phone then you're not willing to take advantage of all the things t

Okay well whatever the radio signal is I don't get it. It fills up the little 4 bars and there's no number above so I know I'm not hitting 1X....Thoughts?
Bars = irrelevant
1x vs. 3G = irrelevant
phone works = relevant
phone does not work = relevant
If it bother's you that much seeing the 1x/ 3G toggling in the menu bar, download the ADW.launcher interface and hide the whole notification bar, like I do.
NOTE: If you're connected to a WiFi network, you will never see the 1x or the 3G no matter what you do. This is by design, not error.
I spoke to someone that was 100% sure that I knew about 5G (and wouldn't tell him) and wanted to know why he couldn't get it. I tried explaining that 4G had 'just come out'. He called me a lier and said he saw 5G on a comercial with Ozzy in it. (Best Buy add - for their buyback program) 🤣
I tried to explain that it was a 'joke' to help people understand how fast the tech market moves. He hung up after telling me that I 'just don't understand.'

I totally understand now. It makes totally makes sense. I have no complaints as long as my phone is working....
i don't have an ally handy so i can't confirm or deny, but i've used the flashlight app on droid, droid2, dinc, dx, fascinate and tbolt. I can only assume that the ally would follow suit.
Again, thank you for responding.
I have a lot of fun with ADWLauncher and icon/theme paks. At first glance at the home screen, you'd never guess that my phone is an android. Great selling point to customers, too.
