termination fees

Verizon81

Feb 7, 2009, 9:52 PM
My wife and I resigned a 2 year family plan in November...how much would it be if we cancel? Is there anyway around the termination fee? People on this board are so dang knowledgable I know someone will know 🙂
thanks all

If you just resigned in November and received a discount towards new equipment I highly doubt there is any way to get out of that agreement. Has something materially changed in the offer by Verizon? If not they have no obligation to release you from your liability.

You bill should not change much at all month to month because of government gharges and the Verizon fees. If it changes that much (say more than a $1) then you are being charged for something else.

are their data charges?

Does anyone on your account:
Browse the internet
Look up the weather
search for ringtones or ringbacks from your phone

All of these incur data charges at 1.99 a Megabyte. This is the most common place extra charges come from. I would check the data section on your bill.

The only way you can get out of your contract is if the price per megabyte or the amount of minutes on your plan changes without your consent.

Fees and taxes will vary from month to month, and a nice chunk of them are government mandated so VZW has no control.

By the sounds of it, if you cancel you will have to pay an early term because verizon has not changed anything about their contracts since you signed them.

I'll tell you a secret. Call in and say you are being sent out of country for about 2 or more years and you need to cancel your service because you do not have anyone to handle it for you while you are gone. Bingo was his name-o.

I highly doubt you can port your number.. I mean that would be a little too fishy. What's a number anyways =P. I went with t-mobile. Where i live they are far superior plus I go out of the country alot and enjoying using other providers' sim cards with my phone while roaming. Plus they run 20-30 less expensive per month and have better phones. I currently use a G1. Don't want to turn this into an ad or anything but i'm extremely happy.

Just cancel the service and pay whatever your termination fees are. It is funny how customers will do anything to get a phone...the will also do anything that will get them out of a contract that they signed and agreed to. Funny isn't it????

Minimum waige?? Or minimum wage?? The point is this....you signed a contract, abide by the agreement you signed. It would be nice to weasel out my phone contract, mortage, car loan, student loans... but I can't, I agreed to the terms on all of them. I understand you want to do what is best for your situation, but don't try to weasel out of the contract by saying you are going out of the country. When they ask you for proof, what are you going to do then?

Actually this is the forum for these discussions. Where, if not here, IS the forum?

You are the one that resigned with them to get a subsidy on new equipment and now you are ranting about things they do that are illegal? Give me a break.

And you are the one who asked these "minimum wage" folks how to get out of your contract.

Did you know 98% of the time its the CUSTOMERS FAULT (you) to WHY there bill is messed up.

Taxes and Fees DO NOT go up and down every month.

You WILL need to pay your ETF fee if you like it or not.

You had 30 day's.

The Air Force/Army thing won't work.

You must have proof, which is WHY the Air Force/Army sends you re-location orders.

How do i know?

My DAD was in the Air Force.

Just go threw your bill, im sure it has to do with Data.

Illegal?

That is what we call a false argument. Verizon charging you for services YOU participate in is not illegal. The fact that you don't want to pay for them is your problem. Pay the early term fees and move on if you really don't like the service.

And I love it how when you were asking for our help to cheat the contract we were "smart" but as soon as we called you on it you started saying we had "minimum wage" jobs.

I've never worked minimum wage, since I started working at 16. Why in the world would I start now?

Stop acting like a spoiled child and pay the fees. Verizon DID NOT change the terms of their contract, so if you want to get out of it, you need to pay the fees.

If you disagree with the fees pay full retail for your phone next time. Then you dont have to worry about any early terms.

Military orders would have to be provided in order to weasel out of your contract. Even when it comes to "secrecy" you'll still have orders.

I had AT&T service when I was deployed to Iraqistan. I was a 97B with Top Secret security clearance, they STILL provided me with deployment papers and I STILL had to show AT&T to get them to drop the remainder of the contract.

Thank you! Its outrageous crap like this that makes our jobs difficult. Every so often a person has a legit reason to cancel sans ETF. I'd say 95% of the time people just want to see what they can get away with. Which is nothing if you get me. Provide me proof, I'll disconnect you with no ETF, no problem, and wish you luck. Otherwise, prepare to pay. I won't help you cancel ETF free no questions asked, ever, and no good rep should.

What has been suggested is known in legal terms as FRAUD. Impersonating a military officer is also not a wise decision (they tend to frown upon that). And contrary to what has been provided to you by this individual, you are required to provide proof of deployment. So I would not suggest attempting this as Verizon Wireless will put up a fight and you may face more of a battle than you bargain for if your not careful.

Furthermore...as it has previously been stated...you agreed to a contract and are now trying to violate that contract. So either fulfill your contract or deal with the penalty that you have to endure for violating that contract. Companies are not charities...they don't survive by giving things away for free like you want...

I find it ironic how whenever a customer is told they are at fault they suddenly are important "attorney's, business executives," or some other person who tries putting themselves as more important than we "lowly sales representatives."

If you really are an attorney, good for you. You know your codes. We know our job and we understand the contracts that we ask customers to sign. Don't presume that you are somehow more knowledgeable simply because of a claim you make over THE INTERNET about going to some overpriced school to still not understand anything about contracts.

You are an attorney? You are not even competent enough to analyze your bill. There are several charges that will vary based off of overage charges or data charges on your bill. You would most likely be on nationwide calling plans and likely be getting data charges.

You state it is a few dollars yet cry like a Walmart employee as though you are on a minimum wage budget. We all know you are not an attorney and likely this whole thread you started is a load of crap. Hopefully your next wireless carrier will charge you legally as VZW has so you can post about them scamming and charing invalid charges.

If you still feel that you are being screwed call in and ask for a Sup, if they can't explain ask for their AD and I'm pretty sure you will ...

You DO need to provide proof. If it's due to military deployment, then you'll need to provide contact information for your commanding officer. If it's due to simply moving out of the service area (even if it's out of the country), then you'll need to provide proof of your new address in the form of a utility bill.

Really, if you were careless enough to sign another two-year contract without thinking things through, then just pay the ETF's. And you'll be looking at around $155-165 per line, for the record.

Really, if you're actually an attorney as you claim in your other posts, then this situation has killed any chances of me ever respecting an attorney. It just shows how damn crooked a lot of you really are. And, in the off chance that...

yes you will. I am in the military and just got back from Iraq. There is nothing secret to overseas military orders. I got them and had to provide them. It does not say were you are going other then in support of Iraqi freedom and the operation number. In my case I went all of 08 so it was OIF 8-1 and 8-2. Fist number is the year and the second is the number of deployment in that year. Changes for services but the marines do 7 month deployments mostly so there are 2 a year that go.

Im sorry what you are talking about is wrong. Now if you believe they done something illegal and in such voiding there contract with you there is nothing to lie about just tell them due to them changeing there part you no longer have to keep the service. hey man simply look over your bill. it will clearly tell you what your being charged for. State and Fed taxes do not change every month. You have to be doing something on your phone to be charged this. possibly data charges is the most common. if your seeing data charges simply call up and have the web blocked on your phone. problem solved.

PS if you do claim your going of the country for the military we do require proof so that will not work.

And watch the judge laugh when it comes out that he's been checking his email from his phone without a data plan.

He hasn't specified why he has the charges, or where they are listed. Unless verizon's changed their charging policies (they haven't) he has no case.

If he was on an old America's choice plan he probably got switched to a nationwide plan when he last upgraded because it's the default policy. Depending on the phones he got, it might have been required. America's choice charged data differently, and a lot of customers don't actually read the contract they sign to see the changes between their old plan and the new one.

I know it is our policy at stores to tell customers about the change in data rates. But we mainly do t...

You do realize that one of the reason the layoffs are occuring is because people like you complain about ETFs and do everything possible to get out of them, right?

Or the customers who try and strong arm salespeople into giving everything to free making stores unprofitable.

Or demand phones for free, forcing companies to subsidize them more and more, making contracts less profitable for the companies (on a secondary line, companies make next to no money if the customer gets a high end phone.

No one is saying the people losing their jobs should be ignored, but that doesn't give you a right to contribute to the problem.

Is why you would bother coming into a forum that is largely populated by wireless employees (and in this specific instance, probably VZW employees),try to get advice on how to screw over the company they work for, and NOT expect to get some flack for it? IF you are an attorney, I don't think you're a very intelligent one. Think about it, we hear this BS ALL DAY LONG! You are not any more special than the next guy, and you are not going to get out of your contract. And IF there was a way to do it that did not include fraud, do you really think anyone is going to tell you? 🙄

I thought Verizon81 sounded familular.

From the VZW forum:
My wife and I resigned a 2 year family plan in November...how much would it be if we cancel? Is there anyway around the termination fee? People on this board

And

From the Sprint forum:
Ok my wife and I are making the switch...we are tired of over paying for service...that really is our only complaint.

we are nervous about coming over...havent pulled the trigger yet. we want to get some feedback from folks...are you happy with sprint? is the coverage that much different?

Dude just pay the ETF as penance for your indecision.
