Verizon is moving to GSM

I have read a lot of the post below with misunformation, so to be clear and answer the questions that have been asked - YES Verizon is moving to the GSM technology.

Verizon has announced the 4g network they roll out will use LTE. LTE is gsm.

Saying LTE is not GSM is like saying EVDO is not CDMA, simply not true.

Verizon is not moving to GSM. You will never be able to use a current GSM phone on Verizon's network.

Your analogies are flawed. Saying "LTE is GSM" is like saying "CDMA is AMPS". It's a silly statement.

LTE was created by some of the same groups that deal with GSM and WCDMA standards, and it was originally intended to be a successor to WCDMA for GSM/WCDMA carriers. Therefore is does have a few standards in common at some levels. Most parts of the technology are quite different, though. It will require new phones, and essentially whole new base stations on the network side.

The difference between GSM and LTE is huge. Of course, that's skipping the whole "3G" step: WCDMA. Even then, there's a huge difference between GSM and WCDMA, an...
