Motorla Q, HELP!
I was thinking about buying this phone as my contract is up soon
a few questions.
1. What is the general review of this phone (for those of you that have had experience with this phone) [usability, signal, battery, etc]
2. Do I have to sign up for that expensive plan they have for PDA/Smartphone blah blah on Verizon?
[I dont need internet access or whatever that plan entails... just need this phone to be part of a regular family plan]
3. Any other comments?
thanks.
I thought that I'd want the Q for scheduling and reminders. I am not only into the use of the Q 3 months and am waiting for the MAXX to come out. Just want a regular phone. The Q doesn't drop many calls (only about 4 or 5 so far) and has great reception for the most part but just miss the downloading of ringtones. I wish that I never got the Q because I don't use any of the features especially nto using the internet feature or e-mail. Just seems like a waste to carry the larger phone around for nothing...
1) Phone is great, some models. Most work great with the newest firmware update from Motorola.com. Most new handsets actually come with the update installed.
Battery performance is ok on the standard battery. Extended is heavily recommended. Screen is awesome, speaker is not that bad, first batch of phones were louder and vibrated much better.
2) Data plan.
Heres the deal. Data devices have an always on connection to the evdo network and will transmit data on their own - even without browsing the web. And if you do not opt for a data plan, you will be billed at ** One and a half cent per kilobyte ** or, $0.015 / kb.
Average transmitted data per month varies heavily, no one can tell when the device connects to the netwo...

A data plan is required to send and receive picture messages. If you use the Pay as you go KB, you will get charges for using this, if you do a National Access Block, then you cannot send or receive pix at all. So the main thing is, if you don't need a PDA and don't plan on getting a data plan, don't get this phone because you cant use it to it's potential.
I do have to say though, that I have yet to get a data charge.
my main concern was if the interface (windows OS is it?) is good enough and if its PDA functions are good..
some questions:
1. Can I edit Word documents?
2. Is the screen touch screen (does it have a stylus or whatever like Treos?)
The camera is decent, the qwerty keyboard is very nice and easy to use. I've had some issues with the voice recognition feature. I've tried adjusting the settings without any luck.
I like the Q for the most part. I don't think you will be unhappy with it.

really?
what is this program called and where do you download it?
thanks.
It's called Documents to Go. It can be downloaded at the DataViz website. I believe it is www.dataviz.com but don't hold me to that. Just do a google search for "Documents to Go for Windows Mobile" and you should find it.
