Question on Smartphones

With the upcoming release of the Pantech 820 I was wondering what the main differences are between a smart phone and a PDA phone. It seems to me that a smartphone does not have things like Microsoft Word or Excel on it - but is that the biggest difference? I think the 820 will be a good selling phone, but to me it makes more sense to buy a PDA phone like the Q or the 700W.

You are correct. Smartphone can only view office documents, cannot edit or create them

The biggest difference is smartphones don't have a touchscreen. Thus, a totally different OS. Also, Pocket PCs generally have more apps available than smartphones.

the Q is also a smartphone. Smartphones can view word and excel but no edit, the 700w is full pda, has touch screen and you can edit excel and documents

Any chance it'll be out by next Saturday (2/3/07) need to switch a phone over from T-Mobile - and that's when the contract is up.

TIA!
