Date leakage

My Moto Q leaks. I do not have a data plan with my Moto Q, but that does not matter, since Verizon charges for data anyway. Evidently, there is no way to keep the Q from connecting and sending data. There is a constant data leak. At the current rate, it looks like I could end up paying about $7 - $10 dollars per month for a feature that I do not use. According to the Verizon tech on the phone, this is the cost of owning a PDA phone. However, the salesman never told me that I would have to pay any data fees. I would like to have data or course, but it's too expensive for just a toy. I love the rest of the phone's features, especially that I can listen to mp3 podcasts using the mono bluetooth headset. Using the Chocolate, one has to have a ste...

It blows my mind day after day the amount of people that just point fingers and take no responsibility for anything of their own! Where does YOUR responsibility come in? From everything that you said so far you pulled the very typical "oh LOOK how cool this is" approach and had to have! It is NOT the sales rep responsibility to go into every little detail or function of the phone! Is it his/her fault that YOU did NO research or educating of YOUR OWN other than letting your eyes and I want to look cool influence your choice? If you would have spent the same amount of time researching the Q as you did to come to here, log-in, and type out this lame ass post you would have clearly found this SMARTPHONE/PDA is NOT the one for you!

Gee, did yo...

Well thanks for your thoughtful reply. Do you really think I did no research, how do you think I found this spot? Show me anywhere it is written that there will be data charges even if you don't use data. Search the various forums and see how many times if any you find it.
Besides that, I ASKED the representative when I bought the phone and he did not tell me this.

What do you mean it's not a toy, how many people here will attest to that? My guess is for most adult men...these phones are toys and the Q is certainly not designed to be a tool.

For exactly which moronic reason did you buy your phone?

Do I take responsibility...well I pay the bill.

Joey...I don't know why you got that response. Have you contacted data tech support or just customer care on this issue?

Yes,
The tech on the phone instructed me to talk to the store manager and he may be willing to swap phones. That's really too bad though, because I really like this phone. Even if it's for stupid reasons

You cant swap phones, YOU SENT IN THE REBATE ALREADY! Theres nothing a store manager, heck the CEO of verizon can do since you sent in the rebate, you locked yourself into that phone by doing so.

When a company is so large that they cannot make an override exception...then something is wrong.

I've done it before. If you do have to give up the Q and go with something else and explain to them why, they will probably let you do it.

Come on, if the phone is damaged it does not matter if you sent in the rebate. As long as the UPC code matches the original receipt you will get your and they'll swap out a non functioning phone. I just did it last week with my 9900 and they were awesome about it. Always remember to play the game, be super nice to them and they will be nice to you. It's refreshing for reps.

wow. what a response. I have sold two phones without data (Q's) and neither have had this issue. There must be something in the phone settings to do this.

Yes, though, it is the salesman's job to educate customers. Otherwise we would be merely order takers. Anyone can do that. Heck, then why not just buy at Walmarts is everyone is just order takers?

Data usage on a PDA may stem from the wireless sync that periodically checks the web or it may be if you send/receive pix msgs. Any time you see the double arrows pointing in opposite directions on the top status bar you are using data. You can stop it by asking for a National Access Block, but doing so will prevent you from sending/receiving pix msgs too. Otherwise keep the Pay as you go plan for $.015/per kb, or take the $24.99 10 Mb plan or the $44.99 Unlimited data plan.

Yes, thank you. If I can get some actual use out of 10Mb I don't mind that fee. However, I have no idea how much surfing equals 10Mb, so I will monitor my data usage for awhile to see what happens.

Right click a web page, go to properties, most pages has size in bytes. 1024 bytes in 1 KB and 1024 KB in 1 MB or your can dial #DATA on your handset and see your current usage.

You can actually totally block data but if you do so you won't be able to send/receive pictures.

That is good news. I would not really mind losing that feature. I will watch the data charges and if its not worth it, that's a good option. How would I do that, call Verizon?

It's odd that the technician did not tell me. I asked her if there was ANY WAY to stop the data flow and she said no.

It's one of those things that can be done but I don't think everyone knows how or knows about it. I'm not sure if it's an actual block feature or if they just take off the pay as you go data feature which in turn won't allow any data to work.

It's an actual block feature code. You can block pretty much everything:

1x Data
Text/Pix Messaging
Ringback Tone signup/purchase
Mobile Web
VCast Music/Video
Get-It-Now

That's why I disregard anyone complaining about additional charges they didn't expect. It can be blocked, all of it! And you are right, some features rely on others... if you block 1X Data obviously you can't use pix messaging on the Q because it sends a 30 KB image? I thi...

What exactly is a data leak?

And why would Verizon CS state that "It just happens, we can't prevent the leakage, sorry. Your just gonna get charged for not using data."?

I doubt that CS would state this. My guess is that you have used the internet or email functions on this phone before adding the data 10mb package. Why wouldn't you? It's an internet capable phone.

Also, Verizon doesn't give you 30 days to cancel. You have 15 days. After that, cancellation fee.

I have not used the data feature, and more shows up every day just by turning the phone on and off.

I have 15 days to return the phone and 30 days to cancel the contract.

But, the cancellation fee could be less than a year of data.

I believe in some markets VZW is giving 30 days on data devices. Don't quote me on what markets but customer care would know that answer for where you are...

sorry to hear you were mis-informed. this is typical will most pda's. they are server based phones that connect to these servers and scan data continuosly. i think the blackberry's and treo (maybe i was told you could but erose wouldnt let me do it) are the only 2 devices that dont auto scan unless you activate the data once.

im suprised your cost is only 7-10 dollars.

he have a 8125 in our store as a demo which we pulled off the data package and the bill the following month in data pay er use at 0.01 kb's a sec was $550.00 with no one touching the device at all.
