Get the i730 or wait?

Living Ghost

I've been getting a lot of people telling me to just get an i730, while others tell me to wait around 3 months and see what new stuff Verizon comes out with.

Basically, I need a new pda phone that runs Windows Mobile 5 (Or Pocket PC 5, or whatever).

So what do you all think? Should I just bite the bullet and get the i730, or wait for bigger and better stuff from Verizon?

(I am really split on the issue, I can't decide.)

The main reason I am asking is because a few people have told me that the i730 is old gen and that it has even dropped out of production by Samsung!

Really, I just want opinions and/or votes.

Yes = Get the i730 now.
No = Wait, better tech will come out soon (probably).

Thanks. 🙂

I had the i730 when it came out, it is a really nice phone, I dont think you would be dissapointed by it at all. As far as obsolete that is not true, the same technology will be used in what replaces it, but it will just be in a different package with a new model number, if you can get the phone at a good price then go for it, you will like the phone.

I'd say get either a Treo 700W or VX 6700 over a i730. Both the 700w and Vx 6700 are packaged with Windows Mobile 5.0. The Samsung i730 has Windows Mobile 2003 2nd edition.

I'm not sure what you're trying to do with the PDA , but if you want to push email and PIM from MS Exchange 2003 with SP2 you would want a Windows Mobile 5.0 device.

I sell PDA devices to business customers and the feedback on the Treo 700w and VX 6700 is pretty good. Not to mention last time I checked the Samsung i730 was a little more expensive.

Well, the Samsung is the same price as the 6700, but the Treo is more.

I just don't like how the 6700 is set up...And, the Treo costs more.

Not to mention you can easily upgrade the i730 to WM5.

I need it for a support program called "Kayako," and possibly email. But I don't need ultra-instant email notification...

But, I thank you all for your opinions. 🙂

By the way, is the unlimited data plan a 1 year or 2 year commitment?

Thanks again! 🙂

Last I checked Samsung didn't have an upgrade to Windows Mobile 5.0 for the Samsung i730 or i830(international version). Upgrades are phone specific. I could be wrong, but I doubt an upgrade will be released. The phone has to be coming to the end of it's life.

You are not committed to 1 or 2 years with the data package. You can change the data feature at anytime.

Really? I was told by some people that for the $100 discount I had to get the unlimited data package, some people said 2 years, a few others said 1 year, still others 6 months.

And, my brother has the i730. They haven't released the WM5 for the i830 yet.

Thanks. 🙂

To get the $100 discount you have to sign a 2 year contract with the unlimited data package. After that you can change the data package to a MB plan.

Ah, ok, thanks.

So, with my N2, I get a whooping $200 discount! 🙂

I just want to go to Verizon and compare the i730 and Treo 700w.

Now, what's all this talk about the 700wx?

Thanks. 🙂

Ok, apparently Verizon is moving to EVDO-A in Q406, so I guess I will be waiting until they do.

Getting a new phone HAS to be such an ordeal, doesn't it?

o.O

I am pretty sure you can use the NE2 and the other one...

I seriously doubt they would inhibit you like that...

It also doesn't make sense.

So, I use the $100 NE2 discount on one phone, and the $100 data on another phone? (My account has two numbers.)

Either way Verizon is "out" $200...

(And when I was talking to a rep in store about using the NE2 discount and how to get the other $100, all they said was that I had to get the data plan, no objections)...

I'll call Verizon tomorrow. 🙄

The 700wx is a new release of the 700w, more RAM and a few other things are the add-ons but its sprint only.
