Digital vs. Tri-Mode

Verizon Wireless is migrating toward All-Digital handsets and will have no Tri-Mode handsets available in the future. All-Digital phones have a slight performance improvement over Tri-Mode equipment, according to our Network Performance Analysis reports.

The VZW Network is CDMA Digital with some areas of PCS overlay. Areas that still support Analog are quickly disappearing. Use VZMap to determine what type of coverage is available throughout the network.

I apologize I am over critical, but this annoys me:

m = milli x-3 1900mHz = 1.9Hz

M = Meg x6 1900MHz = 1.9GHz

Depends on your intended use of it.

Ive seen alot of customers with tri mode phones that couldnt get a call out just because they were in digital but close to an analog tower, the phone prefers the digital but gets overpowered by the analog and the phone will just switch back and forth dropping the call instantly. An all digital phone isnt subject to this because it obviosly ignores analog. The only benifit to a tri mode is if you know you'll be in a complete analog only area. In this case I recommend a Nokia, most all tri modes can go to analog only, but nokias can go to either analog only or digital only

Just a tidbit-about digital, and a tip about the 650.
I still have the Samsung 650, and it's still the smallest verizon phone I can find.
It's tri- mode, but going into the field service menu "menu 9* then 000 000" option 8"CDMA-3G"
gives me digital only. This stays until changed. The other option "CDMA only" gets reset when the powere is cycled.
This way I can avoid ever having analog on and killing my battery, but If I was in an area that had no digital coverage and absolutely needed coverage, I COULD get it. (Like in Florida when I go back there and drive from Orlando to Dunnellon)
Needs are very minimal, but there are a few miles here and there that if you broke down, you'd rather have the option.
I'm looking forward to ...
