Working For Verizon...?

Abercrombie_Fitch

May 21, 2006, 9:40 PM
Hello...

So I got a couple of questions about working for Verizon / Cell Carrier. I am currently employed by a bank but am thinking about leaving. I will have the option to leave or stay in a few weeks. I've got a lot of expirence with cash handeling and of course great customer service skills. lol. I thought about going to work for a Cell Phone carrier because I know A LOT about them. And have had a lot. I like them too. lol. So what are the benefits of working for Verizon? What is generally their pay range / Starting pay? (I Make OKAY money now...considering that I am stil at home and going to college...)
Any input would be very helpful.

Thanks Much

Don't work for Verizon work for Solectron, lets see...

with solectron you get a ****ty hourly, managers are lame and not very highly trained(well in the Minneapolis area)

we do not get commission!!!

and we basically do everything and more that Sales and Customer Reps do..

its always the best to go with Solectron!

The opinions expressed do not represent all (or any that I can think of) solectron reps. We do NOT do everything that sales do, we don't upgrade, we get a HELL of a lot more free time then they do, we don't NEED to live off our commissions (feast or fammene(sp)). I will agree that we're good to work for, it's a coushy job with little expectations (which does NOT translate to "we do nothing") hey if you think you can cut it as a sales rep, quit and switch sides. I don't know about you, but I do tech because I love doing tech work, I enjoy taking a supporting role. This is SO much better than trying to peddle phones, so much better than ERT for Dish. My favorite jobs were support/tech jobs.

sorry 'bout this, I just dont like when people sh!...

I work for solectron in the NY Metro area... i personally like the job. We don't have quotas to meet, don't have to worry about paid and non paid deals, don't have to deal with bullshit... yes we get angry customers, but if u can hold ur ****, u wont be affected by it. been there almost a year now, and don't see myself leaving anytime soon! I make alot of money for the position because I had worked for an Authorized Retailer (Whom, might I add, now... are Solectron/Verizon's WORST nightmare... and i didn't know it 😛) Anyways... average salary ranges around 11 an hour out here... I make up wards of that... working for Verizon as a FT Sales rep u make 28 base, plus commission... 3 months without hitting quota and ur out. 🙂 so... make ur dec...

The job pays pretty well. Im in the NY NJ market and most reps make about 55 to about 65k if there just doing pretty decent. Some guys can easily hit 75 -100k+ if you work hard. Not that hard to do. Great company to work for.

Is selectron an outsource center? I did a little research and i found these outsource companies that VZW use:

AFNI
APAC
LABRYTH
Livebridge
Sitel
Selectron
Startek
Teletech

Pretty interesting =)

the only beef I have with solectron employees in my store, is their lack of customer service skills- or should I say, complete absence of them.. I wish they'd be more empathetic when it comes to relaying bad news to our customers.. on the other hand, I agree the techs don't get paid enough.

Why would you want to work for an agent? When you can make 30-50 percent more of what your making now if you work for a direct store. Plus most agents are very shady selling refurb phones and out of date models.

I'm an agent and would never sell refrb. I pride my self of selling people exactly what I would want to be sold - fresh new phones. Some of us mom & pop stores actually know our customers and have strong ties with them, leading to repeat sales and trust.

Yeah but you keep generalizing us all into one category. I could say all corporate stores suck and are rude to all their custoemrs and give people false information because that is what i get form a lot of my customers, but i know that is not true their are just some bad apples out there and they work in all channels of sales. I have been doing this for a long time as well and have seen a lot of shady stuff as well, many coming from corporate stores!! Such as customers having features thrown on their account they didn't know about, or not being explained the plans correctly so the rep could add extra features on their account to pad their commision, or how about them telling all my customers I sell refurbs when I order my equipment from Veri...

But you guys do sell refurbs. I had an indirect sell a customer an lgvx6000 about 3 months ago. Explain that one please. True story. I almost fell over when I saw the contract. Three stores near me flips calling plans to get higher commissions. I called an indirect store one day and asked the rep why he did that. He said "my boss said thats what I am supposed to do everytime a customer wants to add a new line". The customer had a 350 phone bill on a 4 line 1400 min family share plan. How about how indirects love selling the phones and the minute the customer has a problem sending them to coporate stores. There is a reason why we are phasing you guys out Penny. 😁

DO I WORK FOR THAT AGENT NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! DOES ANYONE ON THIS FORUM, I DOUBT IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THE ONLY REFURBS I SEE AROUND HERE COME FROM THE FRU PROGRAM AT CORP!
you just don't get it, just because you have idiots in your area doesn't mean that is the norm for the entire country 🙄 Like I said before I have had to deal with a lot of crap form some of the corp stores around here giving false info and being shady by adding features the customer never asked for, but I am wise enough to know that not all corp employees do that, it all falls on the individual. Once again some agents are exclusive, we service all of our equipment, offer the fru program if the customer wants, so we do not send them to you, we take care of them, all o...

I don't know where you work but I work for Verizon Wireless and work with Indirect. The thing I can say to you is that Indirect is not getting phased out. There are almost 3 times as many indirect locations out there as direct locations. Who ever told you that they are getting phased out lied to you.

Dude, your ignorance is almost scary.

Virtually every one of my customers come to my store and pray they never have to go to the nearest corp store. Why? Because the corp store is rude and uncaring and slow. Does that mean they all are? No. Just like not all indirects are shady.

As far as the agents being phased out. Wrong again. My company has been an exclusive agent since 1985. Yeah, back when we were installing phones into the car. This company alone has more then 50,000 loyal customers. You think VZW will get rid of us? Or any other agent like us? No way.

your so full of yourself, I have had plenty of opportunities to work for corp, why haven't I? Because my company cares about their employees, I make way more than average sales person at Verizon( i have looked into it), I don't have to worry about all these data and accessorie quotas making me push crap onto people that don't need it. Agents Buy Their phones form Verizon, you keeping posting everywhere on here that agents sell refurbs, I don't know about the shady people in your area but that is not the case everywhere and especially not with my company so stop throwing out false info. The only refurbs I know about are the ones customer care care offers to customers not eligible to upgrade in my area.

🙄 I have many friends that are corporate reps, in my area none of them made 100k! they made around 45k with hitting their quotas. That isn't that great. 100k I wonder how many reps actually made that, nmaybe it is different in your neck of the woods but I doubt anyone is making that near me from what i have been told by salespeople that have been there for years.

try to become an RSR if you have sales experience. if you get to work in one of the busier stores in the country, you can easily pull in between $60k-$90k a year. I believe the store that i was an RSR in was ranked 6th in the country last month.. anyways, i'm not in sales anymore- i'm now a manager at VZW, which is another positive thing about working in a busier store- you get promoted faster.

anyways, good luck to you.
