Lets pretend

Verizonuser130

Okay so lets all pretend that the Motorola Q is out and retails at 419.99. Now im looking for a phone that has the qwerty keyboard and will not be using email or web browsing or any of that. Just looking to text...wut should i buy, the Q or the 9800? Also keep in mind that the 9800 is only 50 bucks cheaper. Your opinion will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

if they are the same price then get the Q, it has a better display and lets face it more qizmos as well as the wow appeal. Now let us all return to the real world, the retail for the Q will not be anywhere near the 419 price point you just mention☹️

i heard the opposite. I heard that because of the lack of the touch screen and things that the treo have that it should be around that price. It definately wont be 500 because Motorola's Retail for the phone is 500 (says so on their find the Q website game) and carriers will always go a lil lower.

oh, and you when you say carrier will go lower your a little off, when speaking in terms of full retail price the carrier usually slaps 50-60 bucks on cost. So even if the Q has a cost of 500, the carrier will sell it full retail for 550-570

also cost and retail is about 50% difference. so if retail is 500.00. then vzw is only paying about 250.00. but at this time the retail is going to be 419.99 for the Q.

see i thought so. So in that case i might just go with that and just pay the extra 50 bucks for the Q instead of the 9800. Im looking for that wow factor for things people havent seen b4. It wud be a huge hit in school πŸ™‚

?I really don't know where people are getting these ideas, retail is not 50% of the cost of phone. Verizon will not be getting these at the cost of $250, the cost of the razr is more than that. $419.99 sounds good for 2year pricing but come on. Full retail for the razr is 419.99(cost for this phone is 359(so $60 mark up), full retail for the 9800 is 369.99, now lets check out retail pricing on pda products,blackberrys=$450,palm650=519.99,xv67 00=519.99,I730=619.99, palm700=619.99. To think that the Q will retail for the same price as the razr is crazy. It may cost around $400 bucks with an agreement but i am saying at leaste 519.99 full retail, i can't see it being cheaper than a palm 650. Heck that would even put it below the blackberry pric...

i would buy the idea that cost could be 420,making full retail about 480-499 and two year pricing around $299 maybe with a rebate getting it around $250, but that is the best scenario i can bring myself to beleive, if it retails at 420 that will out cost at around 350, crap i might buy one then, razr are still going for about 250 on ebay.

This phone is going to be the next Razr. With the 2 yr contract price being $299 and the full retail being $419, everybody and their brother is going to have this phone.

if full retail is going to be the same as the razr then why would 2year pricing be $200 more than the razr? razr goes for $100 bucks after rebate now?

VZW would lose money if they sold the device at $99. Compare the phones, It's pretty simple to see why the handset is more expensive (2 yr price wise). Why the full retail price is $419? Because for $499 (2yr pricing) you can get a 700w. The mot Q is not meant to be a PDA. It was designed to be a phone first (hints the terminology 'smartphone').

Lets see, hmmm reread my post. If you walk into a verizon store and say hey i would like to buy a rzr, no contract just buy it. They will tell you it is $419, becasue that is retail price(no contract) people are saying on here that the Q will have a full retail price of 419. meaning you can walk into verizon and buy it with no contract for that price. So the question would be this, if full retail is 420, that would put cost around 350 so verizon would only be discounting this phone $50 on a two year agreement, that is why i don't beleive these numbers posted on here. At best the cost maybe 419 putting full retail at around 480-500 dollars. two year pricing will could be around 299, i can beleive that but I can't see the full non contract pric...

cmon man,

This had got to be the 5th thread you have started about the V versus the smart phone. I know you want opinions, but eventually you just have to make your own decision. Just wait till the Q comes out and TRY IT! If you dont like it, then return it within 15 days and try the V. Keep the phone that feels right for tyou, and fits your needs....not the phone that other people woould choose....Like I said before, grow a pair and pick a damn phone brotha!

prices? you can get prices in two seconds from several sources, your question is always the V vs a smart phone...and trust me I chilled out, but this is getting annoying.
This is why they have a trial period.

moto's are usually higher is correct. remember the t720 $399 full retail, what a pos. my other question is if the full retail price on the Q is going to be about the same as the razr, are they going to drop the Q down to $99 in 6 months like they did they razr. I highly doubt it.

This is a smart Device so It won't be sold without a PDA Data Plan. If all you want is a text phone the 9800 is the option. And before you start Yapping about "it doesn't matter if it's a data device" know that it is Verizon Wireless Policy to active data devices only with data plans. No Manager in thier right mind would autorize a device of this type to be sold without the revenue generation of a Data Plan. So say what you will, but when it's released and you attempt to activate this device and aren't allowed to without a 34.99 or 44.99 data plan just remember me.

just want to put in a quick comment as to buying one over the other. if you send pics then you don't want a data device because sending them uses data and can run you some good money. I have seen some scary bills just from sending pics on these devises without data plans.....hope that helps

Rememer you're going to be paying 1.5 cents per kilobyte and a picture from a 1.3 MP camera will be about 180 KB. That's $2.70 to send a picture aside from the pix message charge.
