😕
Just wondering, because I hate having to ask for it. Isnt there another way for wireless carriers to check credit and such?

Just because YOU don't know how to do it the answer is no?

Credit can be run, in a very tedious fashion mind you, without a SSN.

First off, the customer can establish with the CRA a PIN or code word. That can be used to establish identity.

The customer can also know key items about their credit history to establish identity. They would be asked questions about items on their credit (i.e. You have a home loan with country wide mortgage, how much is the payment or to whom and how much do you make a car payment, etc.).

Both of the above scenarios would require the customer to speak to the credit review department of whatever carrier you currently sell. Every carrier has said department when a manual review is required (Done it ...

it can be done but vzw's standard credit policy is to issue an automatic 400 deposit rather then bother. Your best bet with vzw is to enter something like 123 45 6789 and with a little luck get a reveiw rep that will actually still run it.

You could have THEM type it in if you'd like. At my shadier mall i have the customer write it down so no one can hear them say it to me...

Call customer service and have them set up a Password on the account. All accounts have a password field in our billing system. Whereas, we must verify the password if there is a password in that field.

if you are an agent and want to proscess something as simple as an esn or price plan change, it requires the full social.

he's talking about running credit.......you can't set up a password with TransUnion. They only work on SSN, which is your personal ID# with America.

I (personally) like verifying the SSN rather than bloodtype, height, weight, great-grandmother's maiden name, her pet gerbil's name, favorite porno film....but then again that's just my personal preference 😉

They need to make a change in our systems that would allow the customer to enter their Soc Sec number using the touch pad that they use to enter the pin number for debit cards. That would solve asking them to say it out loud or writing it on a piece of paper.

The touchpad is a good idea, i used to give customers the keyboard and show them where to click on submit. This was a long time ago but i remember doing it without a social a few times with t-mobile and they didnt verify anything except name and address, to me thats a little more scary then just giving up your ssn.

And remember, it's MUCH more serious that the NSA is datamining phone numbers than it is giving your SSN# to a perfect stranger.

You know, the number the Socialist Security people said would never be used for anything but Social "Security"?
