ESN Change

I just had a thought. How difficult is it, and is there a chargem to change back and forth from 1 phonr to another keeping the same number of course? The only reason I don't upgrade (and I am off contract) is because I need my LG 6000 as my only Internet connection for my laptop 4 to 6 times a year when traveling. I can't do that with the RAZR or LG 8100 withought doing some hacking, which I am trying to avoid. can I upgrade to one of the newer phones for Bluetooth (don't care about music stuff) and then switch back to my LG 6000 when I need it traveling without going through a big deal? In fact is the LG 6000 one of the GPS phones that is even allowed to be re-activvated today? Mary? Bet you know the straight answer to this one.

Yes, as a matter of fact, I do. You can easily switch back and forth at no charge by changing your ESN online here:

If for some reason you have problems and have to call CS, they won't charge you because you it wouldn't be your fault that it wouldn't change online.

To check and see if your LG VX6000 is GPS/911 (which I believe it is) enter your mobile number here to find out:

Hope this answers your questions. If I missed something, please let me know.

Opps, I messed those links up. To change ESN:

https://myaccount.verizonwireless.com/vzs/customer/e ... »

If it comes up at the login screen first, log on then choose the option at the bottom left that says "activate phone" then choose "activate existing phone" and it will bring you to the correct part.

To check GPS/E911:

Sorry about that.

Interesting idea there. From my understanding as a Verizon Sales rep there is no limit to the number of ESN changes you can do (someone correct me if I am wrong). I personally have had a customer come in and do 2-3 ESN changes a month, just kept finding different phones to try out. I would do your NE2 and IMHO get the Lg 8100 (my fav) and when u want to use your Lg 6000 all u need to do is call *611 on your cell, hit 0,0 to go directly to Customer Care, give them your name, last 4 of Social for Verizfication and the phone number u want to do the ESN change to, then give them the ESN of the Lg 6000 (you can do this by taking the battery off the back, and it will say "ESN Dec" give them that 11-14 digit number)

After wards you just *22...

There is a fee by phone in the West Area since Nov. 2005, if you call customer service to swap it, a $20 esn change fee applies, not charged though for warranty, upgrade or insurance swap.

verizonwireless.com , my account option is a free way, using self serve.

If one has never had an EVDO phone on their account before (lg8000,8100, etc) then you must call customer service to have the features on the account changed for the first initial esn swap. After that you'll have no problem changing back and forth online at will on verizon's site

Thanks a lot to all of you. That will solve my problem and let me get a Bluetooth phone for use when not traveling, while still not having to violate VZ's policy's. I really hate their new policy of not even allowing us to use simple, slow dial up modem connections on their new phones, without buying their $60 per month broadband service, when I only need the connection a few times a year. At the same time, I am the CEO of a fair sized company myself, and I am not about to do anything illegal for such a small benefit. I think it is a very short sighted policy of Verizon's, but it is their company and they have the right to run it any way they please. I think it will bite themin the end, the same as it did AT&T. Appreciate the help from the g...

Make sure to ask in the store. I've seen it said on here before that when switching between EVDO and non-EVDO phones there are features that need to be added or removed and doing the ESN change online will not work.
