Ok, so here's the deal. I went into a VZW store to get the VX9800 today. Here's the situation:

I still have 10 months left on my 2 year contract, but i have a plan that is 59.99 a month, so they told me I qualify for a 2 year upgrade. The VX9800 at Best Buy is 99.99, but at VZW it is 199.99. Can I do the upgrade at Best Buy or do I need to do this at a VZW store?

On a sidenote: If you would like to talk me out of getting the VX9800 now is your time to do so, or forever hold your piece. (I am not going to use the vcast or the camera, but I will use the qwerty keyboard, wireless sync, text messaging, wish it had a better scheduling system)

ok, sounds like you just talked your self out of getting it. I don't see Best Buy letting you have an early upgrade. I would go into a store. CS will have to allow it, by noting your account. If I were you I would just go with a regular phone and use the T9 text. At this point you already know how to use it, and might be pretty good at it. Ask your self... can I see my self using this phone for 2 more years? I don't see anyone using this thing for more then a week. But thats my two cents.

I was kind of thinking along the lines you just stated. I am pretty good with the T9 text, and two more years of being locked into a contract with VZW is not something I am completely sure I want to do with the way I was treated today at a store, BUT the phone look like a good time, and my phone right now definately cannot e-mail.

I couldn't wait to get my hands on a 9800...until I picked one up. It's way to heavy and brick like. If you're not going to use the VCast or the camera, I really don't see the point. Get a PDA.

yet because of the hidden keyboard the 9800 is about half the size as any of the pda phones...

can you still text from the outside if you want or do you always have to open it?

I have a 9800 and you can txt with having to open it. It's just a lot easier with the keyboard. I've read people's post about the weight of the phone, I don't see a big problem with it personally. The only downside for me is the ringer volume isn't loud enough. Overall though it's a great phone.

CS doesn't have to allow it...there's an early upgrade policy in place for that. as long as they meet the requirements for the early upgrade, there shouldnt be any reason for the store to not allow it. now with that said, I work in the south area so I'm not sure if this is true everywhere else (not sure why it wouldn't be).

Thanks Shock. I admitted this thread was all about my situation before he opened it.

And I do appreciate all of your help.

To update everyone, I picked up the 9800 today (still trying to get used to it, e-mail isn't working so well right now), and guess what my buddy behind the counter showed me as I left. THE NEW RAZR. Looks pretty sweet, colors look good, camera looks nice and tiny, and he told me it had OBEX.

I figure if I don't like the 9800 I will go and pick that up next week when they can start selling them.

He was asking for advice incase you didn't notice. And BTW, I'm new to the boards, and from what I've read on here, YOUR posts are a waste of space. Seems you just like to stir up trouble. Lay off or grow up or something, go play with your phone, I don't know . . .
