Trying to pick between Nokia, Motorola and LG for new phone

It's time for a new phone. I really like the Nokia 6256i, the LG 9800, or the Motorola v710. The only one I can still buy from Verizon is the LG, but it's not tri-mode, and I kind of wanted that feature. The Nokia is tri-mode, and as well as being blue tooth also can communicate via IR. I'm leaning toward the Nokia. It says it requires some kind of optional headset for the FM radio option to work, is that expensive? A friend has the Motorola v710, and really likes it.

With the price that Verizon is currently offering the LG may be least expensive, though it sounds like there may be ways to get the Nokia for less.

Ideas, good and bad experiences with any of those phones, or other suggestions would be appreciated.

I own the Nokia 6256i and really enjoy the phone. It has excellent reception and call clarity that I rate to be even better then my e815. It's nice to have the Nokia UI 😁
Good luck

I have haad both the v710 and the nokia 6256i. There is little to commend the v710 compared to the nokia which I beleive is the best cdma phone availalble and certainly the best that Verizon offers, even if it isn/t available through the corporate stores, as yet. It delivers in quality, clear reception and full bluetooth functionallity. I would have no qualms pushing to go to Best Buy as quickly as possible and to purchase- the NOKIA 6256I!

I tried to see it on the Best Buy website. Since I'm already a Verizon customer, can I buy it there?

It's $250 @ Best Buy without a contract (AKA for existing customers not at their upgrade point) with a $30 Best Buy gift card rebate.

For me that wasn't a big deal, selling my 710 which I can get about $150 or so for, so the Nokia only cost me ab out $80 when all is said and done.

You can also get it at Best Buy fo' $149 w/a 2 yr contract.

I hear Radio Shack has some better prices on it, but its hard ta find a Radio Shack that actually carries it (not all do). Also, Radio Shack is gonna stop sellin' Verizon at the end of the year, so they might not be the best choice if you want long-term service an' support.

Well, I have always had my favorites, neither of which is Motorola or Nokia. Lucky Goldstar (LG), on the other hand has a great deal of experience manufacturing CDMA phones as does Samsung. The reason for this is both companies are South Korean and South Korea has used CDMA from the beginning. The Motorola V710, is a old discontinued phone, and although it has a loyal following, I would not recommend that phone. Nokia, has tried numerous times to make a quality CDMA phone. They are now trying again with 6256i. I hope this turns out to be a good phone, Nokia generally makes excellent GSM phones since they are a Finish company that is experienced with providing Europe with good quality handsets. As far as an Analog / Digital phone is concerned...

I had been waiting for the Nokia since September and finally got it yesterday through Radio Shack for $59.99. I was really disappointed. It's a good solid phone but I do not like the on and off button and the positioning of it by the antenna. I think I got spoiled by playing around with my husband's 710. Everything is so user familiar on his phone. I'm waiting for Radio Shack to get the Motorola E815 in and then I'm taking the Nokia back. I have always been partial to Nokia's but in this case I was throughly disappointed. Maybe I expected too much. 😢

I heard of a lotta reasons fo' takin' a phone back, but.. where the on/off button is located? Uh.. okay. 😳

Maybe I'm partial 'cus I got a 6256 an' love it, but it sounds like you jus' got used to the Moto user interface on your man's V710. Thing is, you best go with the E815 an' not the RAZR, or you'll get 'disappointed' again- I hear the RAZR's got the Verizon UI, not Motorola's, and won' feel familiar to you at all.

Have to wonder goin' forward how many of Moto's phones will use the Verizon UI as opposed to Moto's.

I think you're right about getting used to the Motorola interface and I surely will not get the RAZR. WAY too over rated IMO. Don't get me wrong, the Nokia is a good solid phone with great reception etc. The on and off button is just one of the reasons I don't like the phone. I'm much more comfortable with the Motorola and my old Audiovox 9900. Larger screens and bigger key pad. Another hugh problem for me is the speakphone button. I keep recording things when I try to put the speakerphone on.

You jus' hold down the side button a little longer to go to speakerphone, thas' all. But you probably know that by now. 🙂

Good luck wit' the E815. That phone was my second choice, I'm sure it'll do you up proper.

I stopped by my local radio shack, but they didn't sell phones to people who already had a contract. And they didn't have the phone I wanted. I live in a pretty rural area, and it was a small store. I'm hoping to get to town in the next couple of days and check at a real store.

Since I've had Samsung, LG and Motorola phones in the past I'm willing to try to learn something new.

If your really interested in the Nokia 6256, I'd go to Best Buy. Thats where I got mine, an' they do sell to people who are already on contract. I did have to ask 'em to look under the counter to find the phone, though.

Radio Shack isn't a good way to go anyway. In my xperience they usually suck, an' theyre gonna stop sellin' Verizon at the end of the year anyway. Its tough to get good info from their guys already, imagine what'll be like if you ask 'em questions about a service they no longer carry.

That's a no brainer - Nokia 6256i all the way. I think the Nokia is unfortunately the largest of the bunch, but not incredibly larger, just a touch thicker but it's bluetooth is NOT crippled, the call reception/clarity is much better and well, it's a Nokia (which I consider to be the best cell phones out there).

I've had the 710, I ditched it for the Nokia and am much happier with the Nokia. I haven't had the LG though, but the little lady has one and it's like a kids toy as far as build quality is concerned.

Well, I got a Nokia 6256i at Best Buy. One of the phones on our family plan was due for an upgrade, so I got the phone for 149. I really like the phone, so far. My son offered to trade it for his Samsung, but for some strange reason I wasn't interested.

When I upgraded my wife's old Motorola got turned off, and now they won't turn it back on for her. Something about it not having GPS capability. I think my old LG VX2000 is a better phone for her anyway, but it really needs a new touchpad, you can barely read the letters. Anyone know where to aquire something like that?
