Nokia 6256i Owner's Manual Doesn't Explain How To Transfer Files Via BlueTooth
There are no instructions for transferring photo files to a BlueTooth computer or vice versa. There are only instructions on the phone and camera features.
How, then, is a person to know how to transfer files to a computer?
BTW: I went to the Apple Store today and bought a $50 BlueTooth adapter dongle: The D-Link USB BlueTooth Adapter DBT - 120. Now I am ready for getting that BlueTooth phone.

I am concerned about the lack of step-by-step instructions in the Verizon Nokia 6256i Owner Manual. BlueTooth is addressed only in a generic description of what BlueTooth does, plus the various BlueTooth profiles supported by this phone.

I'm having a very bad feeling right now. I went to the site above and began to download the Nokiausa Support PCSuite and came to a message window that said that it requires Windows or XP Operating System, meaning a PC system! I have an iMac, running on OS X (10.3.9 — UNIX).
Am I correct in thinking that I cannot run the Nokiausa Support PCSuite and therefore cannot run the BlueTooth etc features and therefore should not get the Nokia 6256i?

I was only suggesting one way to transfer files, I'm sure there are other methods to transfer via Bluetooth from a MAC. I'll leave that to a MAC person though.
That one way you were suggesting is THE way that I wanted to transfer files. Also, if I cannot download the Nokiausa Support PCSuite, then I won't be able to do anything with any of the BlueTooth profiles.

Dear Nokia Support:
I have an iMac running on OS X (10.3.9 — UNIX). When my contract with AT&T is up very soon I am planning to go with Verizon (for the reception) and get the only phone there which will have (I am told) a FULLY ENABLED BLUETOOTH *with* the OBEX profile supported: the Nokia 6256i.
In anticipation of getting the phone I went to the Apple Store and bought the D-Link USB Bluetooth DBT-120 ADAPTER.
Further, I decided to download the Nokiausa Support PCSuite that will be used for the vario ...

lorna - I hate to say it but you are probably out of luck. Most companies that make software only care about Windows and Internet Explorer. I don't use either Windows or MacOSX, and don't use Internet Explorer to surf the web, you'd be surprised at how many web sites *only* work with Internet Explorer. I used to use a Mac, and I think once you hook up your bluetooth adapter, it should just "see" the phone and you should be able to use iSync to transfer files back and forth. Unless Nokia has a Mac specific version, they are not going to help you at all.
Oh dear..... I sure hope you're wrong. ☹️ 😢 😢 ☹️ ☹️ ☹️ ☹️ 😢 😢 😢 😢 😢 😢 😢

Hey! I do tons of research. I also ask questions, too, just in case someone knows.
I joined the Apple Discussions and there is a Bluetooth Devices forum and an iSync forum. The thing is, it's a case of posting a question and waiting for an answer while inquiring oneself at, say, the Nokia site, like I did.
BTW, the email question that I sent to Nokia got bounced back several times. Almost like they don't want to hear my question, but I know better than that. Beyond Nokia itself, I can't find a higher authority.

It doesn't much matter what OS you use, if the support is there.
Ideally, if both the phone and the OS support full OBEX, you should be able to treat the Nokia phone just like you would treat any other removeable file system, like a flash drive, in other words, you should be able to copy images and files off of the phone and back onto the phone.
The Nokia suite may give you an easier way to do it than messing through your file system, and give you convenient organizing stuff and all, but is probably not really necessary, and in an...

I was under the impression that the Nokia Suite was something vital and important, not just a convenience. Your words have given me some hope. Thanks thanks.

Here is some text from that Nokiausa Support PC Suite page:
Nokia PC Suite is a package of Windows-based PC applications developed especially for use with Nokia phones. Depending on your phone model, it lets you synchronize, edit, and back up many of your phone’s files on a compatible PC through a wireless or cable connection.
Depending on your phone model, you can use PC Suite to:
Back up and restore phone files
Transfer information, pictures, and music from phone to phone, phone t ...

It also knows where in your phone the various files should go, and probably has some information that allows it to override certain protected files for transferring phone books and so on.
All of the other things that is supposedly does, are basically file transfer issues, which should be supported, provided both the phone and the computer support the same OBEX profiles. I stress this becuase it turns out there is not just "OBEX" and "not OBEX", there are at least 2, if not more, levels of OBEX support; most likely your computer, if it has BT supp...

However, when I did some research on iSync it said that I could also transfer files via USB. But the point is, even if I can get around photo file transfers with USB, I still would not have all of the software for the rest of the profiles and feaures.
All because Nokia doesn't write software for the Mac.

Worse comes to worse, guess you could run Virtual PC on your Mac, tho' it ain't cheap, an' you'd have to ask Nokia if everything would still work:

Either that, or consider another phone that works with iSync. I hear the Moto e815 is good, tho' it don't have full bluetooth. Yeah, it is a quandry (heh, i got to use quandry inna sentence 🙂 )
