I just purchased a tictalk for my son. It is a very basic phone for emergencies but that is exactly what I wanted. And at a price of 100.00 for the phone and a minimum charge of 25.00 every 6 months to keep it active it's hard to pass up. It is web based so you can control who calls, when it works, who the child calls, and it has leap frog learning games on it. It is supported by Cingular network but uses it's own customer service department and website. It is great for making a call to find a child or for them to let you know they are ready for pickup.

I had looked at the LG but I didn't like the looks of it and didn't want to wait who knows how long for it. The plus side is that it would have been with VZW.

Oh man. Hate ta say it, but even tho' the site says 'Grades 1-6', any kid older than third grade is gonna be mortified pullin' this thing out in front o' their friends.

And your point is? The original post asked about the LG KIDS phone. I made comments about the Tictalk KIDS phone. Who said it was for any one other than a KID. If parents need a way to keep in touch with their kids in an emergency this is a good way to go. Not for parents who want to get their kids a full blown phone then complain about how many minutes they are over or how many text messages they send.

Well if you wan' the kid to like it/use it/bring it along wit' them, you got to consider things like whether its embarassin' to them o' not.

But if da goal is to have a phone that they'll only use in emergencies, then TicTalk + an older kid will accomplish dat, no problem. So in a way, its actually a good thing I guess.

wasn't backtrackin', jus' sayin' that the phone's stupidity can work for it, if you're tryin' to limit the kid's usage.

Neat phone, ugly, but neat. I think it's tough to judge a phone designed for kids. Some of the stuff I see kids wear today confuses the heck outta me. So maybe this thing will be a big hit. Personally I think the firefly has the best look to it.
