6256i: Activation & Service

Hey Guys,

Here's the deal: I've had the same cellphone for 5 years, so I haven't had to deal with any of this and could use a little guidance...

I'm really interested in the 6256i, but am hearing that it may never be available from VZW's site or their stores, so I'm considering buying it elsewhere, but am wondering this:

a) Does anyone know whether VZW stores will still service the phone if I run into problems--even if I've bought it elsewhere?; and

b) Is it possible to buy it elsewhere, but not activate it until I get to a VZW store (e.g., have the VZW store activate it, so I can keep my same phone # and plan--which is AC's 300)?

Any help on this is much appreciated.

Thanks, xari.

If you just buy it somewhere, you should be able to activate it online using the Verizon ESN changer available on http://www.verizonwireless.com/ Don't know about the first question however.

You mean Best Buy won't do the ESN change for the customer? Why not? They just made a good profit off the customer...why wouldn't they do an ESN change right there? I know that when I am able to sell the Nokia phone (next week or so) if someone paid retail for the phone I would offer that service along with a phonebook transfer for free too. After all, I made money selling the phone...surely I can do those to little services. Of course (according to other threads) VZW would charge 20 for the ESN change at a retail store and 10 for the phonebook transfer. Best Buy might not even offer either for any cost. But me as a lowly indirect agent would offer these services free of charge...

Think of that next time you people knock on the ind...

Best Buy, in some markets, will charge an activation fee.

Where are you, cef236? I am an Eagles fan and may be in the market for a 6256i soon, though my NE2 eligability started last week.

Nope...Philly burbs. I'll probably wait until I can get it through VZW and get my NE2. Also, if it doesn't play nice with my Infiniti I may return it.

Please tell me exactly what an Indirect Channel is. Is it simply anywhere that is not the main store? -Lorna
