Q for a VZW CS Rep

🙂
Morning, question for you CSR's out there...

Scenario: Boyfriend and I are both in the early stages of two year contracts (he has a shared plan w/two lines, $120/month, I have a single line $40/month). We are moving in together ... when he moves in can we change his billing info to be in my name, address, etc., and then can I call into CS and switch all lines to one family share plan without having it considered me 'terminating' my agreement(s)? I realize I would have to start another 2 year deal.

Or, do we both have to finish out our own two year agreements before making any kind of switches.

Thank you!
🙂

You surely can, its called an assumption of service. It will start a new two year agreement, but will not effect ne2 dates or upgrade dates. When you call in make sure you are both present to give consent on the change.

You wont be able to do it over the phone completely. They will send out paper work for you to fill out and then you have to mail it in. Or you both can go into a corporate store and do it right there. You both have to be there, and if I remember, you need forms of ID. Going in to the store is the easiest way to do it, takes less then 5 mintutes.

Now if it were me, I would not do it in the first place, things are good between you two now, but, what happens if you go seperate ways, you are responsible for his 2 lines he has now. Just like buying a house together when not married, bad idea.

Just my 2 cents worth, you dont want to get stuck paying ETF's for 2 lines, or finishing paying out the contract if things go south and he doesnt...

Georgia, wouldnt it be just as easy to assume the lines back to original if things were to go south. With all due respesct I do not believe it is your position to make such a suggestion, if a customer wishes to assume lines of service under any circumstance it is our job to do it no questions asked. Maybe you have had a bad personal expierience in doing this but I think your 2 cents in this situation could have been kept to yourself.

No worries, I appreciate the input both personal and professional. I've thought of that and I'd be stuck in a two year contract w/o the other two lines too.

Here's another Q. His 2nd line is NOT being used right now (he just got screwed by a 'friend of his') and my mom is on a month to month (same address), would it be possible to make her # his other line?

So, in a nutshell, we'd have four lines under one name (mine) at one address (mine) on three different plans. 1 w/no contract, 2 on a shared plan and 1 on a regular plan (with contracts). Could I now call VZW and tell them this is what I want: One family share plan w/three lines - this would drop my mom's month to month but I'd like her to keep her #. Does that make sense? I'...

My suggestion would be to go to your local VZW store and explain your situation, bring your Bf and mom and find out what the best solution would be for you, I like message boards but without all the facts I cant give you a real good suggestion. Go and talk to someone in person I think you will be better off.

The line that is your mothers, who is out of contract would go back IN to contract because of the change in responsibility. It would only be 1 year contract...but still under contract. And yes...you could do a family share with the 3 lines...then have one by itself.

sure it would be just as easy to have the person assume the lines back, IF, they are willing to do that, and they didnt harm their credit during the time things are going good.

And no, I have not had a bad experience in this matter, but, I have watched it happen a couple of times. I am just offering free advice, as I am NOT a verizon rep, so it is not my job to not ask questions, in fact, I was not asking a question, I was just pointing out to maybe think twice before doing so. Go talk to any lawyer, financial planner, social worker, banker, they will all tell you what I just said, it is a bad idea to enter into a contract with a boyfriend/girlfriend.

There is nothing wrong with pointing that out, and as you see, she already though...

Again, I appreciate your .02, however I've never found the VZW reps that I've dealt with to be anything but helpful in helping me figure out what I need based on my usage.

Please guys/gals, don't turn my Q into a pissing match there is enough of that on these boards (so-and-so sucks and this company is better than that one, etc.) Freedom of speech is great but these boards can just be downright infantile @ times.

I am not upset, I am just trying to point out that this person is getting ready to step on thin ice, and, as I know it is not verizon's job to tell him/her this.

I do know a lot about verizon, I pay very close attention to verizon and other wireless carriers. I like to know what is out there, and how it works. I would be willing to bet that I could almost walk in and start working with little training. So, yes, I am just a stupid customer, but, I do know and pay very close attention on what happens in the wireless industry, if I dont know, I usually will find out. In fact, where I work, a lot of empoyees will call me for help, or how to do something on verizon, or how plans work. So, that is why I appear that I know what is going o...

Why cant you, its not that hard, Im not sure of your current position, I know that if you want to you could get a job with any of the carriers. You might have to start at the bottom and work your way up. But hey thats life. Anything can happen you just have to find the right avenue.

Hmmm. This is different in the West Area then.

We'd call it a Billing Responsibility Change or BRC. There wouldn't be a new 2 year contract for anyone. If the guy's 2 lines have less than a year left, they change to 1 year, if over a year they don't change. Her line would be subject to a regular price plan change / contract situation. She would lose NE2 on her line because the price plan is now under $34.99 but the upgrade dates wouldn't change. There is no paperwork to do as it's pretty much like signing up for new service over the phone.

well, in the midwest, I can tell you for certain, they would not do a responsibility over the phone, had to be done in a corporate store, or they mailed out paper work for us to fill out and had to send in copies of our state ID. They said they had to see that to prove we are who we said we are. our contracts stayed the same, we just put it in my name.

So are people unable to sign up for service over the phone too then? That's really strange.
