How does IN messaging really work

I have a question, how does the in messaging really work. I have been told by numerous Reps that if you can do it, such as send a text message, and it is to another verizon number, then it is considered "IN" messaging, same goes with pics and flix, even if you are in an extended network. Is this true?

I am looking at my online account information, and it is listing 2 different text messaging. One is the In texting, and the other says other domestic messages. What does that mean. I am not texting any thing but to other verizon numbers, so what exactly does that domestic messaging mean?

I think that other domestic messaging is when you text to another carrier other than Verizon.

You do not get credit for IN messaging while on extended network. E.N means you are using a tower not owned by Verizon and therefore it cannot tell that you are sending a message to another Verizon customer.

I understand that when you are on the extended network that we are on another carrier's tower, that is why I asked over and over, and again to make sure I understood how the "IN" text messages work. I asked at 3 corporate stores, I called in and asked at least 2 reps on the phone, and they all were saying the same thing, as long as the system verizon, or extended network, allows texting, pics, or flix, and we are sending to another verizon number, it will be counted as "IN". It appears that once again, I was told wrong.

If the system can not tell that I am sending a text to another verizon number, how can the system tell that I am calling another verizon number? Is there a difference between calling and texting, we still use the phone ...

Here is the nice vague thing...The term extended network is just what the previous PCMB member stated. Now...here is the funny thing. If I go and pull up VZW maps, there are areas that are "extended network" but you have a link to click on the shading for the IN messaging and calling. The area is listed as being ok for IN messaging or calling. But it is extended network...and then there have been areas that aren't. I wish they would just make it simple to know...

Yeah, like eveything else verizon does, they dont explain very well. I think text messaging will be shut off on my account all together, I dont need it. I will just go back to basic cell phone usage and get rid of the mobile web, and 2 lines with the in text messaging. I am going to email verizon again and see what they say this time around.

There are areas where "IN" may not work. This is on about 5% of the extended network which is maybe 15% of the entire network.

This leaves you with 3/4 of 1% of the whole network that "IN" doesn't work. Don't worry about it.

are any of those areas in Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, Wisconsin, or south dakato. My bill will be coming out here in a few days, I will see then.

I did email verizon, and they responded by saying that the "IN" messaging will only work in the enhanced area, which does not include the extended network.

So, whoever is wrong here, we will see in a few days.

IN messaging and IN calling work in the same manner. Here is what you need to look for: no matter what America's Choice plan you are on (with roaming or no roaming) look at your roaming indicator. Not the words on the screen but your TRUE roaming indicator at the top (usually either a triangle or an R). If there is NO indicator or the indicator is FLASHING you will be using your IN minutes/messages. If your roaming indicator is SOLID you are using your package minutes/messages. The only time that you will see the solid roam IS in Extended Network, this just means that the company either didn't want to participate in these programs or doesn't have an enhanced digital signal. The Enhanced Services area on VZW's map is mostly for the 'hig...

Thats just false.

No roam indicator = VZW owned tower

Flashing roam indicator = Extended network (i.e. someone else's tower contracted to be used by VZW customers)

Solid roam indicator = Roaming. On the new plan this would only happen outside the US. On the old plan you would be charged roaming for this call.

Not exactly....

It is true that you SHOULD only see the solid roam when outside the US, but in my area we do have some areas that this shows for the customer and their features don't always work. It is a digital area (I drive through it daily) but my caller ID, txt, vm don't work there.

It's just that these areas are so small that unless you are in or near one they are overlooked.

Phone calls work the same way. You will get credit for the IN call while on extended network if you place the call but not if someone calls you. It's difficult to understand, at best. I do apologize you were told differently. There are a lot of employees who do not understand as well but we are working on further education. Hope that helps. Please let me know if you need more info.
