i work for cingular, in the past year or so i have seen alot of changes, and heard of alot of things that are suppose to happen, my question is this
there is a big debate from whether or not the CDMA network is better than GSM or vice versa

now we all know to an honest point of view that both networks are solid networks, gsm is more of a " major city network" and CDMA is more of a RURA: Netork" just because it is cheaper to implement CDMA than GSM

but here is my question i have seen that verizon is very into building up there EV-DO network and focussing on network, because in years upon years verizon has been known as the best provider for service. HOWEVER my concern is that isnt verizon a little bit worried since right now all carri...

Why would they have to switch to WCDMA? That isn't the only "true 3G" standard.

Verizon doesnt seem too worried about the GSM providers actualy. T-mobile is too small and too far behind on their 3G to be anything other than a low-cost consumer carrier, and cingular still seems to have its hands full digesting attw, and is underperforming right now. Analysts predicted them to get 1.25 million new customers this quarter, they got 1.07 mil instead. Verizon isnt going to have any problems beating those numbers when they announce on tuesday. Plus theyre way ahead of cingular on deploying 3G.

Verizon would not be switching to WCDMA, as that is not the 3G step for CDMA carriers.

CDMA carriers will progress to CDMA 2000 for 3G. GSM carriers progress to WCDMA.

Thus, Verizon is not worried, as they are prepared for this evolution.

I's not really that big of a deal, but when U.S. Cellular changed from TDMA, they changed to CDMA. Just to counter that every tdma carrier switched to GSM.
