daughter is going to Ireland in June for a month. Currently uses Blackberry 8330...

Suggestions for the month she's there...maybe get a local handset with a local sim?

She does have Skype on her macBook...but I'm talking about daily use..like texting and calling around in Ireland...

plans are kinda pricey. Along with approximately $1.30 a minute for calls, you'll have to have the $64.99 international dataplan.

Do you have the unlock code for this blackberry? If you unlock it you can use an Irish SIM card for while you're over there and not have to deal with verizon's global charges.

If you go this route, you should also take the bbery off your account and replace it with a dumb phone to save you $30 for that month.

Strike that about taking the phone off your account. I forgot that you have insurance on the phone. If you take the phone off the account and try to put it back on you won't have the ability to insure it anymore.

Hope this helps

Um, the 8330 is NOT a global handset...

Sorry, totally read that as the 8830. My bad.

Verizon has a global loaner phone program if you want her to still have her same number overseas. You can only borrow a global phone for 21 days though. probably wouldn't be ideal for you.

i think your best bet is to have her get a cheap prepaid handset and use a local sim card.
