You don't need a calculator.

Look at the sales tax on the bill - round up to the next dollar, then double that. IF the service was exceptional, toss in another buck. Or two if service was exquisite.

Yeah, locally I'd be giving a 40% to 60% tip with that math. Sorry, no.

Yeah exactly epik. Do you use a tip calculator?

I keep a calculator widget on my first panel to the left. I just type in the amount (which I would have to do anyway), and multiply it by .2. If it was great service, I increase the result. If if was decent service, I leave it as is. If it was so-so or not that great, I might go down a little. If it was absolutely terrible, I give exactly 15%. I rarely, if ever, go any lower. The server may suck as a waiter or waitress, but they're still a human being working for a living. If I treated them like crap, I'd be just as bad as a few of the customers I see in the wireless business.

Yeah. I won't tip less than 15%. If the service is really *Bleep*ty though I have been known to write about it on the back of the receipt or call the manager over to discuss it. I call these "coaching opportunities". If you can't afford to tip then don't eat at an establishment that has a wait staff is how I feel.

Then don't double it. Round up, and add a buck if service was good.... in places where sales tax is under 10%, round up & double works.

Yes. I understand. But this guy asked for a recommendation not a catalog.
