Any Blackberry to Android converts out there?

My first smartphone was the Palm Centro and I now have the BB 9530 Curve. My favorite features are the almost-instant push e-mail and the physical qwerty keyboard and not having to deal with a slider form factor. I have tried the Storm and can't deal with that particular virtual keyboard, even in landscape mode. I use LinkedIn, facebook, twitter on a daily basis so that's also important to me. I would like to hear from users that have converted from BB to an Android phone or other platform so I can determine if there's a benefit. Motorola has a couple of products that although they are sliders, I am interested in looking into.

It depends on what you need. I use my phone for business & fun. I went from a BB curve to the Droid2. The Android platform isn't as business friendly as BB, but it's a lot more versatile for overall fun.

That said, Android is constantly upgrading it's apps, and my complaint one week is usually resolved the next.

Thanks for the reply.

I use my phone primarily for personal use. I am currently job searching, but even when I was working it was my personal phone and I rarely used it for business. I think when I get closer to upgrade time I'll need to demo some of the different Droid phones that are available to see what their UI is like.

You'll find a ton of people on here have moved from Blackberry to Android.

What kind of email are you using? Hotmail, Yahoo, Gmail, your own site's email, or company email?

Some people feel like the email just isn't the same on Android. I think it depends on your email type. I've used Gmail for a very long time. Gmail on Blackberry was super fast (like business email, usually). The first few months on Android, Gmail was about three to ten seconds slower (I had the benefit of having both a Blackberry and a Droid for a while). After Android started getting software updates, the Gmail on my Android has gotten faster.

Other free email types are usually a little slower. You can set your Android to check those email accounts faster...

Wow, thanks for that huge amount of info!

I don't have corporate e-mail. I do have a gmail account but Yahoo is my primary e-mail.

I checked out the Droid Pro and it's pretty cool. I like the proportion of screen to keyboard. I like my curve but I could never figure out why RIM devotes about half the face of the phone to keyboard and only half to the display. I like that the Droid Pro has a larger display and yet the keyboard doesn't look scrunched. The keyboard actually looks alot like the Bold, even down to the sculpted keys. As far as the virtual keyboard, the original Storm is the only one I've ever tried. I demo'd one at a VZW store and found that I made alot of typos and mistakes. I've read that some of these keyboards actually ...

The Centro's screen was tiny compared to all of these! It's amazing how much has changed in a short time.

I once had the Samsung Saga:

Which was a just barely functional Windows phone that felt like a surfboard next to my head and on my side. And yet, the screen wasn't really that big.

One thing I've always shown people on the Storms is the comparison to the Curve/Tour/Bold models - when in portrait mode with the keyboard up, the screens are practically the same size. The Storm, however, has the landscape keyboard as well as the ability to be a full-screen, which is wholly unlike the other Blackberry models.

The Droid Pro looks, to me, like a good middle ground. Still sports a...

I went from the storm to the droid X. Love my droid X. Touchscreen and internet browsing is a lot better than my storm. Epik, pretty much hit it on the head as far as giving you a good anaylsis. Droid Pro, Droid Pro 2 should be in stores mid november if you can hold out that long. Good luck.

Where did you get your hands on a Droid Pro? I didn't know they had already been released.

I went from the Storm 9530 to the Fascinate.

My biggest complaints are that I can't customize the alert tone for the calendar alarms and the facebook app sucks rocks. RIM's facebook implementation is way better then facebook's facebook implementation. Makes me sad, but not enough to go back to Blackberry.

My wife, on the other hand, tolerated her new Android for about 10 days then returned it and went back to her BB Tour.

I'm happy, she's happy. It's all good. Your experience is going to be different then either of ours.

I work for Verizon and was given a Blackberry for my biz line so I could be on the bes. When Android first launched we were not allowed to use an Android for our manager lines due to security concerns. Once Android 2.2 launched we were then able to move to Android devices and use the sync servers.

Pros
Attachments open up very quick

Cons
Email and contact syncing needs work

Interesting... was it that the attachments took longer to download or to actually open up after download?

Both are quick... I use Excel spreadsheets for the majority of the reports I have to read and when I was using a lackberry to complete the same task it seemed like I had to open the reports in segments instead of one complete download. The only thing that the android doesn't do is allow me to edit spreadsheets so it makes it a lot of shifting around and remembering cell positions. I would only use my curve for spreadsheets if I was in a dire situation where I need the information at all cost.
