Bad Rep or Standard Policy

I have a few questions on trial period and renewing that I hope someone can answer. My apologies for the long post but it provides the info for the questions.

About 5 to 6 weeks ago having lost my phone (it was close to dying anyway) I bought the Moto V710. I returned it when I discovered that the bluetooth was crippled. When I returned it to Circuit City (which sells Verizon service and phones) I specifically asked the rep guy to make sure that they put me back on my previous plan which was the older 400 min plan.

At that time I was not under contract so they said to get the discount and NE2 I would have to be on the 450 plan (same price). The rep assured me that he returned me to the original plan I was on before and that I would be...

You're raising multiple issues. Obviously something went wrong, because the
rep in the store told you that you were back on your old plan, but somehow
that didn't happen.

The problem you ran into is this: the 400 minute plan was discontinued. The
30 day time limit is real. You have a 30 day grace period to change your
mind, void the contract, and go back to your old plan, even if the old
plan is no longer offered.
Every carrier has these types of limitations.
We have some customers who are still on plan that's $9.99/month and they pay
for every minute. If one of these guys switches to a new plan, he can't
change his mind and go back to the previous plan four months later. The plan
simply doesn't exist anymore. If you exper...

wow, I know all of that but I cant believe you actually typed it all out, I dont even like explaining it to a customer because it is way too confusing to most of them, and you still had enough patience to actually type it out, your fingers must hurt, I would not have even attempted to type it, my hats off to you Sir.

Thanks for the explanation.

My biggest issue is that I purchased the phone and signed the contract in order to get the discounts. It was never explained that they are separate issues. Since I returned the phone within the 15 day grace period or whatever they call it. I should be able to get out of any contract and return to the plan I was on without extra fees (besides minute usage). That to me is the whole point of a grace period so you can try out the phone no questions asked. If I return the phone what do I need the contract for besides to limit my options to go with a different carrier. That is why I wanted to return to month to month for now as I considered switching carriers ( after researching the EVDO technology and the new phone...

odds are that you went over on your prorated minutes,

here is what you need to do (In my opnion)

*Go back to the rep,
*he should go to his manager,
*his manager should go to his rep or OMS, offline managment System)
*his rep should should be able to get any problems handeld (barring you didnt go over on your prorated minutes)

either way I personally think that you were over on your prorated minutes

JUST REMEMBER BE NICE, YOU CAN GET A LOT MORE FROM PEOPLE IF YOUR NICE AND NOT A TYPICAL JERK WHO THINKS EVERYBODY OWES HIM EVERYTING.

Hopes this helps

I appreciate your reply. I will most likely return to the store because if Bear is correct Verizon will probably charge me again for changing the plan back. I know for a fact i did not go over on prorated minutes. I looked at the Bill and there is $0 for minutes used. I believe I see at least part of the problem. The bill is charging me $15 for unlimited nights and weekends which is already part of the plan.

P.S. As for being nice I am all for that. Everyone makes mistakes. I only have a problem with someone if there is willfull dishonesty.

Okay, then it wasn't excess minutes caused by the proration. You've got some other weird stuff going on. The supervisor you spoke to may have corrected it. But here's what I think happened:

The rep in the store changed your contract code without changing you back to the old plan. He thought he was "resetting your contract." In reality, he simply restored your old contract code and left you on the new plan. Without the right contract code, the system will charge you $15 for the N&W package and $10 for the IN-Network package. That's what these features actually cost. You only get them for free if you have a promotion, and in order to have a promotion you have to have a contract. If your contract code doesn't match your plan, then...

Clarification:

The following is corrected below

That is why I wanted to return to month to month for now as I considered switching carriers ( after researching the EVDO technology and the new phones coming out I decided to hold off).

That is why I wanted to return to month to month for now as I considered switching carriers since the v710 was Verizons only BT phone and it was crippled (after researching the EVDO technology and the new phones coming out I decided to hold off).
