Droid X vs Samsung Fascinate

First let me say that I personally think both phones are too big (especially the Droid X). But I guess if I want the latest specs, I have to accept the package they come in.

Anyhow...Here's the way I see it: Motorola Droid X (on paper) is pretty-much the phone to beat.
The Samsung has the Super AMOLED screen which looks amazing and it's also a little smaller and more pocketable. BUT...it lacks HDMI out and it has a 5mp camera vs the Droid X's 8mp.

Based on that, the only real advantage to the Sammy is the Super AMOLED screen. How much better will it actually look over the Droid X? hmmmmmm

I pre-ordered the droid x because it made me drool 🤤 Plus I've never been a fan of samsung phones (at least not their smart phones). The super AMOLED screen looks nice, but it doesn't seem like the fascinate has much more going for it.

You will be pleasantly suprised with the Droid X. It is solidly built and it does not seem too big in your hand. The touchscreen is smooth and very responsive. Typing is very easy on it. This phone hands down is better than any phone VZW offers and it is better than the Incredible. I've been playing with the phone for the last couple of hours and it is awesome. You will not be disappointed.

The X was going to be my next phone still would prefer to have the Epic 4G, but that doesn't matter now anyways work has changed directions once again! - going to have to go MILL PTT again. Surprising Verizon seems to be doing an outstanding job at converting A LOT of Nextel subs.

I think the Droid X is going to be too big for mere mortals unless you are the belt clip holster type. However, if (and only if) HDMI is a deal breaker, you don't have a choice.

I think ideal maximum screen size is either 4.0 inch @ 480x800 OR 4.1 inch @ 480x854 resolution. I'm not fond of AMOLED either, but I haven't spent much quality outdoor time with Super AMOLED so I'm not prepared to pass judgement there just yet.

5.0 MP and 8.0 MP in a cellphone camera is statistically identical in my book. Get over your MegaPixel complex, IMO.

The Droid X is not really that big. Once you hold the device in your hand you will see that it really is not that much larger than the moto droid. It is a little longer, but that is it. The problem with the Super AMOLED screen is that it could possibly be a battery drainer. But we will soon see.

The whole bread and butter of AMOLED screens is that they use very little battery power (compared to any similar LCD display). I'm not worried about battery consumption at all, I'm worried about real world outdoor viewability. I can always pack a second battery or extended battery if I need to make a quality LCD like the Droid or Droid^x last longer.

As for device size, I have a personal hard stop at 2.5 inches wide, before attaching a solid plastic case as I will for every device I ever own for the rest of my life. That adds 0.25 inches at least and I'm just not willing to carry around a 3 inc...

I'm going to have to actually hold a Droid X in my hand before I can say for certain that it's too big. I have a feeling I'm not going to like it's ...

Matt, i have been playing with the X for a week now. This the phone to beat. It is just as good as it looks on paper. It is faster than the Iphone 4. The X is not too big. If any adult male says that this phone is too big for them, they must have small hands. Its a solid phone and it is built very nice. In fact more women are interested in the device than expected. You will not be disappointed. Thes screen in the sun is good, battery life is good as well. Best Vzw phone by far.

Thanks a lot for that information! I'm glad to hear it's a solid performer. My issue with it's size isn't about how it will be in my hand; it's about how it will be in my pocket. I've gotten away from holsters and...

Do you like cargo jeans? I like cargo jeans. There's lots of space in cargo jeans pockets, near the knees. Just something to consider.

🤣 I like cargo jeans! The phone is not too big for any jeans. Just cut out a piece of card board, and you'll see.

LOL...I'm not going to start choosing the type of clothes I wear just to accommodate a cell phone. If I have to do that, the phone's too big. I don't wear tight jeans either way, so it might work out fine. I'll just have to wait and check one out in person. Heck, I'm not eligible to upgrade for 3 months. By that time there may be other (even better) choices.
