opinions needed for palm pre plus

in a recent conversation with verizon customer service, they offered me an early upgrade to the pre/pixi plus (my NE2 isn't for another 4 months, they really are trying to get rid of them lol). while the android OS intrigues me, i'm not quite sold on it yet. webOS just seems so much more polished.

the only thing i'm not so fond of is the tiny keyboard, granted as a woman, i do have smaller fingers...it just seems extremely small coming from sideways keyboards. are there any distinct advantages webOS has over android? i pretty much understand the advantages from the android POV. thanks!

I will say the free wifi hotspot that comes with the palm is very tempting. I have played with the Palm and I liked it... just wasn't wowed by it. It is a solid device but I wouldn't say it was more polished then the 2.1 android software. If you are needing a business phone with decent email and solid calender sync and wouldn't mind using it as a free modem from time to time it is a great deal.. And the keys are not that bad...you will get used to them with use.

Me personally, I would rather have an incredible. Are you the type looking for the safe mini van or the flashy sports car? Sure you will get better mileage and comfort with the mini van, but I am more of a sports car fanatic. The Palm is boring, the browser is not as advanced, the...

thanks yeahright. i hear ya with the comparison, but full touchscreen isn't an option (yet)...i still prefer a physical keyboard. the incredible looks great, but not a fan of the racecar backside. i really like htc sense though...hopefully htc will come out with an android slider for verizon sometime in the near future.

i like the sound of palm's reliability, i'll continue thinking about it...but i think i'll wait for the actual date of my NE2. in 4 months, i'm sure there will be something for me that i won't have just "settle" for...maybe the moto DROID2?

yes, i saw the early photos when it was still called the "aloha"...looked like a great piece of hardware. the current photos are so far removed from the original, not quite digging the different look and feel. not ruling it out though.

the palm is a great phone. With free hot spot and cloud technology. Web os is not bad at all i know the apps are not there yet. But talked to the palm people and they said it is being taking care of. So if you go with palm you wont be disappointed

I remember how excited I was by the idea of the Vphone back in November. It still isn't here. Good thing I gave up on smartphones or I would probably be upset.

lol, true true. i'm currently using a dumbphone myself...just haven't found the right smartphone to justify paying $30 extra. BUT when my enV touch dies, i'll more than likely pick up a smartphone to replace it.

Verizon didn't like the free Mifi. Now the Palm Pre Plus has free Mifi.

Verizon didn't seem to like the fact that the VPhone was designed to work with Skype. Now Verizon has an exclusive deal with Skype. I'm sure video conferencing will hit us at some point, too, which the VPhone is designed for.

From friends who know the CEO of the company (they're based near where I used to live), the rumor is that Verizon didn't appreciate a small fish playing in the big fish pond with booths at trade shows and investors pressuring Verizon to make a move.

It would merely take a green light to give the ESNs a pass in the network and allow them to activate, regardless of whether Verizon sells it for Saygus sells it.

I'm on AT&T and they are supposed to be getting the Pre Plus this summer as well...

I'm honestly debating on Palm vs Android (Android options are painfully lacking on AT&T)... and 7...

The biggest drawbacks to the Pre is... well... Palm. They waited to long to update and now they are the under dogs in a *BIG* way. HP's purchase of them may be their savior, but it's hard to tell.

Being last leaves them with fewer app developers as well. Android and iPhone have apps galore. Not so much with the Palm. Most of the important stuff should be covered, but with fewer choices if you don't like whats there.

The benefits are a much smoother OS. Android is cool, but Palm's OS is smooth as silk. The multi-tasking features of WebOS are what th...

i completely agree. webOS seems a lot more fluid (IMO), albeit more contained...which is fine by me. with regard to apps, i really don't care, as long as there are a handful of good quality ones that fit my needs i'll be happy. the only thing holding me back is the hardware. i played with one in the store for a while, and just couldn't get used to the keyboard. i have a month to decide...but i'm already leaning towards waiting it out. it'd be interesting to see what hp+palm comes out with down the road. and winpho7 🙂

More because of my upgrade date... But I think I'd wait a little longer anyways.

I didn't think I could ever live with a phone that didn't have a physical keyboard. I have the HTC Eris and I must say, the HTC virtual keyboard is phenomenal. It takes about a day to get used to and I haven't looked back. To me, there would be no choice between an Incredible or a Palm product. There just is no comparison imho.

Go for it.

I have worked in the wireless industry for 6 years and when I received training for the webOS I liked it so much that I purchased the Pixi Plus, my first EVER smartphone. I never liked the OS in any other phone enough to want to pay for a smartphone plan until now.

Yeah, the app store is small and the apps themselves aren't the greatest but that isn't an issue. I've been satisfied with the ones I've found in there. I enjoy using my phone and have no problems with the keyboard, and the Pixi keypad is smaller than the Pre.

I really don't think you would be dissapointed with the Palm choice, and with VZW currently offering FREE hotspot with the Palm products it's a great time to jump on board.
