forgive me if this has already been answered (i did a quick search, but couldn't find it), if a feature phone is acquired through a non-store purchase, is the 9.99 data still required to activate it?
...
k so i guess i didn't mean "feature" phone but 3G multimedia phone...

If the phone is on the 3G Multimedia list, regardless of where or how you got it, it will require a data plan.
...
thanks for the clarification. how about if the phone was purchased within the same family share before the data feature was required, but it's just being activated on another member's number?
...
Yes. Even if the line that originally had it switches to another phone and then switches back, they'll have to have the data plan. It's only grandfathered without the plan for as long as it remains active on the line it's on.
...
that sucks. the enV touch i'm talking about was originally bought under the line i wanna activate it on, but because the person didn't need it at the time we used the phone on another line. so now that they need the phone, they're gonna be stuck with the data plan. ah well. thanks for the info.
...
This is incorrect. If you're switching a device from one line to another on the same account, then the data package isn't required.

😡 Bad Verizon. BAD! 😡
...
I know it isn't offered by Verizon anymore, but I'm considering buying it off Ebay. I called Verizon customer service and the woman couldn't answer my question 🙄 Just to be clear, anything categorized as a "feature phone" does NOT require a data plan, correct?
Thanks.

No it doesn't require a data plan
It's also a piece of Crap imo (crappy build quality, poor touch screen, poor battery life, etc)
The ONLY reason to get this phone over a Intensity or Cosmos is if you NEED video capture (or a purple phone) If not, an intensity is a better phone by a factor of 10 imo
...
thanks, that's what i thought. from what i've seen the build quality is fine, but if you've experienced the touch screen and battery life then i'll have to take your word on that. i decided on the moto because they just work when it comes to areas with no reception. the person who will use it lives in an area where NO carrier works (plus they hardly use their cell right now as it is), so they just need a reliable phone with a good keyboard for texting when they're not at home.

The top sliding part (screen) has the tendency to get very loose very fast, and it's also prone to breaks because of how thin and plasticy it is.
The screen has a HIGH chance of "white out" where it will just become non responsive/non visible.
...
gotcha. it'a a good thing someone outbid me this morning on ebay! i was about to buy one. what non-data requiring phone with a physical qwerty, that is reliable (call quality wise) would you recommend? the lg or the samsung?

The intensity seems to be great... Not sure about the LG, but they are typically pretty nice for reception.. just don't have as much experience with it
...
thanks. i'll look into both of them.

I can vouch for the screen issue. I easily see one per day in my store because of the white screen of death, or the black screen post-mortem. At one point it was such a big problem that we pulled the phone off display and tried to steer people clear of it. Who cares about not having to pay for data when you'll be in the store fixing it each month?
