t9
I was reading reviews of the Nokia Intrigue & I saw several complaints about not being able to teach the t9 on this phone new words. I got fed up & went to a vzw store. The employee at the store informed me that NONE of the new phones have this any longer. I asked him if Verizon removed this feature or if it was the manufacturers & he wasn't sure. I tried a few of the phones myself & he was right. LG, Samsung, all of them have had that capability removed. Does anyone know about this or why this feature has been removed?

I think it was the phone maker who did this.

Verizon removed it from all their phones. VZW611LA is wrong on this one. They think their customer are too slow to understand how to use this, so instead of confuse them, they thought it was better to remove that feature. Pick up a Nokia phone from any other carrier and you'll see...

i would have to agree, verizon did take it out. my friend has a regular samsung phone with verizon, and we compared it to a regular samsung at AT&T and the AT&T one has T9 but the verizon doesnt.

THe nokia on another network is running some form of a nokia UI. The ones on Verizon's network (if they even are nokia phones, nokia doesn't like CDMA so they outsource most of the phones) it is running BREW.
I don't know about the T9 being blocked or enabled. I never used it. I'm just saying that a Nokia phone on another network is running a totally different OS than the nokia for verizon (unless nokia ever releases a N series CDMA device). So comparing them is like comparing windows to Linux.

T9 on VZW phones will learn words. You just have to input them correctly.
If you want to "slap it with teh learnin stick", make sure the phone is in ABC mode not word. Tap out the word you want. Before you hit space, switch back to t9. Hit space.
Consider t9 slapped.
I successfully did this on:
Env3
EnvTouch
G'zone Boulder
Chocolate 3
Samsung Smooth
Sorry, did not have a nokia to try it one. Since vzw uses similar user interfaces, hopefully it will work the same.

I just tried this on my Nokia Intrigue and it failed the test. I'll have to see if it works on anything else when I get into work later.

Ok, you rock. Never had to do that with any of my phones with vzw before, not sure why they changed it but if I can get a new phone & slap it senseless with new words I can roll with that, thanks! 😁
