Merger making customers suffer?

Ok, my hometown is an Alltel town.. they have ZERO Verizon stores (right now). I've always had the issue of when txtng my sister that her txt's would get hung up in the system and arrive HOURS later, sometimes a full 24 hours later.

Now that they are doing their thing with the towers to bring both together, MY service has been suffering! I sent my hubby a video msg this morning... he didn't get it. So I resent it (tho the phone says it went through the first time). 10 hours later... he got the FIRST video msg I sent him!

I'm sorry... but I've NEVER had messages to my husband get hung up like that in the system! I sent the video to 3 people and all 3 got stuck in the system! 😡

Are any other service areas having the same types ...

Verizon is more than likely upgrading your service area.

Upgrading it to EVDO Rev A. When working on a tower, problem can happen.
The porblem will go away when they finish upgrading.

upgrading towers will give you better preformance and a stronger cell single.

Also, save your battery power.

but, it will go away.

Alltels network was not up-to-date, and Verizon is upgrading it.

But the problems wont last long.

I realize they are supposed to be doing all that, but I find it problematic in the fact that the problems we're having now are inherant problems with the local alltel service in our area. I should know... stuff like this and a few other issues are why we switched from Alltel YEARS ago!

I'm just waiting on getting multiple copies of the same txt message from a Verizon customer... or even calling someone and getting someone completely different because the system mangled the call (All local Alltel problems)

man I hope they don't take too long! 👀

It depends on how bad the towers were in your area.

Is there 1X only? Digital only?
Alltel has a lot of Digital only tower which need updates to 1X and EVDO Rev A.

Whats your zip code and I can get an idea on what Verizon may be doing.

Not to say that the issue isn't legitimately being caused by the changes that're taking place, but I'm curious: How often do you turn your phone off? Reason being, I doubt that you should be experience such issues for such a long period of time, so it's possible that you simply need to turn your phone off, then right back on to force your phone to make a proper registration. That can affect the performance of certain services, as the network can lose track of you, in a manner of speaking.

I'd recommend turning your phone off, then right back on at least a couple of times each day. That isn't to say that it's required, but it can certainly make a difference. Give that a shot.

I'll try it, but I doubt that's it since I've had the phone for right at 2 years and this just started about a week after the merger finalized. BTW... about the only time the phone gets turned off is when it decides it's got a dead battery... you know, that 1 minute deafening warning the EnV gives you before it shuts off! lol

I bet he is right about that !! Anyways one week after the merger was finalized that I can't see !! I think you might need to call tech support because there could be a problem at the switch ! If anything the service would get better not worse!! Do you always charge your phone when it is on? The reason I ask is because it is good to give the phone a rest once in a while ! Try Charging the phone a few times a week when you can with the power off!! Also I am not sure but when was your analog killed in your area? That is when turning off your phone became important !! Alot of the phones still look for the analog that have the capabilites to do it!! I used to program the phones not to use analog and this helped out alot!!

Well, like I said, it's nothing definite, but there's always a chance of a coincidence. Plus, if something DID happen as a result of the switch, then it's very possible that your phone's registration just needs to be updated through power-cycling the device or having it refreshed through customer service or tech support.

HEY!

I just thought of this!!

If Verizon has finshed the upgrade, then dial *228 send, and the option that says "Program You Phone" and this will update your phone for any new upgrades and tower changes.

(Your phone should restart, if not, do that after the *228 SEND)

Those are only ROAMING updates. For the record, *228 doesn't update the phone software or allow the phone to detect tower changes. It only dictates which CARRIERS (not towers) your phone will connect to in any given location, and it's ONLY used when out of Verizon Wireless' footprint.

Also, one common misunderstanding about *228 is that you don't need to do it in every area where you use your phone. One roaming list update is good for the entire world. You only need to update it every month or so due to roaming agreements changing over time.

If you don't update your roaming list with option 2 (or 1, as it programs your MDN, MIN and SID, then downloads the updated PRL) and happen to travel outside of the Verizon Wireless area, then you'...

Actually, you want to do *228 if you notice your service in an area (even in verizon's footprint) is starting to fall. Our rep said to do it ever 30-60 days because of how aggressively verizon is reworking their own network.

When my area switched over to EVDO my service on my phone plummeted until I did *228 Option2. This not only improved by cell service, but because my phone was seeking less often for towers it had better battery life as well. the main purpose of the update is for roaming out of network, but it can improve native coverage if Verizon did significant work on the local towers.

PRL stands for Preferred Roaming List. It includes nothing more than information that the phone uses WHILE ROAMING. Doing *228 can appear to have an effect on the performance that you're experiencing in the Verizon Wireless area, but it doesn't.

Take most non-Motorola phones, for example. If you do a PRL update, then most phones will automatically reset. It's the reset that tends to have more of an effect on your service, since phones register with the network during their booting sequences. Phones will register throughout the day, anyway, but maintenance and changes to the nearby wireless components can affect your registration. Trust me: The PRL does nothing in the Verizon Wireless area. Take its name in the most literal sense possible....

Idon't know about that. We live near the Canadian border and when we call CS about roaming....they tell us to have the customer update their roaming once a month. Just a thought (not being argumentative lol)

Once a month is fine, as well. It really depends on where you are, as roaming updates are done more or less often in certain areas.

They are reworking EVDO for for Alltel coverage areas.

I'm not sure if it is the same with your phones, but you might want to try and update your roaming. With verizon phones it is *228 Option2

When a company reworks their towers it can mess up the system until the phones catch up. updating roaming can make them catch up faster.
