I really don't get the new LG Versa

Going by the article on the phonescoop homepage, it sounds like the Dare with a detachable physical keybord and a downgraded camera. Maybe I'm missing something, but what would you gain from this phone over a Voyager?

A choice? Why do they make slightly different versions of the same automobile and call one a Toyota and one a Lexus? Consumers want options so we give then options. I keep wondering why people buy Palms and PT Cruisers but...they still do, no?

Yeah, I guess. It's just that most new phones bring some new feature or technology to the game with even better specs than the one before it. Other than the detachable keyboard (don't really see the point) this phone seems to have the same features or less than previous offerings. Heck, it might be a great phone and a huge succsess for LG. I just don't really "get" it.

You should see the spec sheet.

It's physically something akin to a Dare with a detachable Voyager.

Software wise, this is the first phone with some new tweaks. There are multiple home screens with multiple shortcut options. I can use the media home screen and have pics or videos loaded, or I can have the main home screen loaded with links to my calendar or music. There's a high-end features page. You scroll through them like a version of HTC's Touch Flo system.

Something I'm very happy to finally see is a way to back up your contacts to a computer via Bluetooth, but I haven't quite figured out exactly what the phone would back up to. I'm hoping that soon we'll have phones that allow the customer to sync their contacts and appoi...

I didn't really read too much other than what's posted on the phonescoop home page. Maybe it does do a lot more. That's cool. It's disappointing that they couldn't put the same 3.2mp auto-focus camera in it that I have in my Dare. In my opinion, even the Dare's camera is just now approaching what I would call acceptable. All my previous phone cams sucked.

Yeah, the 2MP was a surprise for my team.

I agree the phone is boring, but I bet it will sell well. I rather see an updated ENV without the butt ugly front, or an much improved Alias, or the Rumor.

The Versa is geared towards children and gamers. The detachable qwerty can be replaced with a game pad (similar to a Nintendo pad). So you have a phone, digital camera, Navigation device and a "game system" in one. I don't think it'll do well; the screen outweighs the keypad and it feels too top heavy and cheap. It may sell, it may not. But the main selling point is the gaming.

Maybe Namco and EA should help subsidize the handset price. 😁

1: Adobe Flash support
2: Threaded text messaging
3: Three browser tabs to hold multiple websites open
4: I can reach the touchscreen and the physical keypad without having to open and close the fold all the time like my Voyager

Of course, I'll wait until after the first price drop before I order mine. Let a few other early adopters get some beta testing in and save myself a few bucks at the same time. I can make the Voyager satisfy me for a few more months, at least.

I wouldn't dream of having this class of phone without an internet package anyway, so I could care less if it's required or not. I already spend 5x more time on the web/email on my Voyager then I do actually talking on it.

If your ONLY criteria for deciding wheth...

I've considered the BB's several times, but as it stands right now, I've got my wife and myself on the new Connect plan with 700 minutes. My 24% discount gives me both those lines for $95.99 +tax.

If I go Blackberry, I can't keep the Connect plan, So I'll go to the Select program and then have to add $15 Vcast for my wife and $29.99 for my BB, and that's $123.38 per month.

I don't need the better calendaring and 3rd party apps enough to pay an extra $27.39/month to get basically the same WWW access I've got now. That's over $350/yr difference for a product that will serve my needs equally well.

My hat's off to all y...

The phone feels a little steampunked, too, what with the faux grained brown leather. It needs copper studs.

Playing the Need for Speed Demo on the phone was amazing.

Reason enough to choose it over the Dare.

I'm an adult and I don't play games on my phone so that means absolutely zero to me.

Like I've already said at least two other times in this thread, I haven't read anything more about the phone other than what was posted on the phonescoop home page. If it's a good phone that people are excited about...great. I'm happy for VZW and LG to have another nice phone. It just don't see the appeal for me personally.

Anal-retentive much?

🤣

I'm a big boy in my big boy pants. Adults play games all the time, especially on their phones.

I'm anal-retentive because I don't play games on my phone? Thats funny. It's more like I'm just too busy.

The anal-retentive remark was probably more in your insinuation that only non-adults play games...

Some of you guys take this cell phone stuff waaay too seriously. I'm really sorry if I offended any of you. That certainly wasn't my intention. When I made the statement about gaming, if you read it carefully you will see that I said, "I'm an adult and I don't play games on my phone.." I didn't say, I'm an adult so I don't play games on my phone...". All I meant was, I'm not a kid nor do I play games, so that wouldn't matter to me.

I wasn't tearing the phone down. I never said "The Versa sucks" or anything like that. I simply said that I...me personally...don't get the appeal of it. But by the responses of some people you'd think I insulted your dead grandmother or something. It's just a phone people.
