The Omnia and Saga require a data package like the Blackberry. It will be either 29.99 or 44.99

A good rule of thumb is if you saw the phone out this summer, you don't "need" a data plan (except on blackberries) on those phones.

For new phones, such as the omnia, you do.

Also: 29.99 is for consumer phones, 44.99 is for phones that need access to a corporate email server. So you'll only need the 29.99 one.

Any pda will require a data feature of either 29.99 or 44.99 no matter when you got the phone.

it is possible to activate something like a moto q without a data plan, but most people who would sell them to you would not want to activate it that way. You would also pay a lot more on the phone.

If you block internet, you will also not be able to receive or send picture messages and several other features will be crippled.

No pda's will be activated without a data plan. Data will not be blocked.

Um that's not right the only pda that requires a data plan is the blackberry! You can activate the windows phones or the other pda's without data just as long as you buy them on ebay or from a 3rd party or just pay full retail price at the vzw store!! Well atleast that is the way it used to be!

Um...that's incorrect. The new policy is that ANY PDA will require a pda feature whether it be blackberry or windows. It makes no difference. Too many customers have been activating pda's without the data feature and racking up charges and denying that they went on the internet.

justmarried, your statement might need some clarification. It was only the PDAs released AFTER November 14th that required the data plan. Did they change that now? So if I wanted to buy a Palm Centro TODAY I could still block data because the phone was released prior to November 14th. That's what I was told when my son got his Dare right before Christmas.

No problem,to clairfy....any PDA activated after Nov 14th will require a data feature. If you activate it in the store or online, if you upgrade or buy it on ebay, when you activate it you will need a data feature. The only way that you will have a pda without the data feature is that you must have had it prior to Nov 14th. But it will require a data feature if you get another pda. Hope this helps.

This is incorrect. Any advanced device that was ADDED TO THE PHONE LINE-UP after Nov. 14th will require a data feature. Non-BlackBerry advanced devices that were released prior to that date DO NOT require a data package, even if activated now.

Where are you activating it? I can guarantee that activating one in customer service will initially auto-populate the $44.99 data code, but you can easily swap it out for the pay-as-you-go or NationalAccess block. I can't speak for in-store ESN changes or IVR ESN changes, but activations through customer service absolutely DOES NOT force a data package on non-BlackBerry advanced devices that were released prior to the Storm.

It is the same for esn activations in the store. It will auto-populate the 44.99 plan, if it was released before the storm you can change it to block or payu. It is only phone released on the line up after Nov 14.

Right. I think that is most clear now. netACE just assumes... "why would you want a device like thsi and NOT be online?" lol but ya thats right.

It auto adds it, yes. But I can go in and remove it and add pay as you go or block it entirely and it will still let me activate the phone and print out the contract.

Now if you are talking online, that might be a different setup entirely (but you can still call and get the plan changed if you want.) I'm sure third party online retailers like offwire are requiring it no matter what, but that is how they offer their phones for the prices they do.

No you are wrong. Like the previous person said, you do not have to put the data feature on a phone (besides bb) out before November 14th I believe is the day. Aka, Centro, No data required. Treos, i760, etc. NOT required.
