Activating a phone you obtain from a friend?

My VX8300 died. I still have a NE2 credit, but haven't decided on a replacement. In the meantime, my friend can give me a used Verizon blackberry for free.

Can I activate this as a replacement, via the website, for instance, until I pick my next phone?

Make sure and do the claim with Asurion before you activate the BB otherwise that can cause problems sometimes. You can definitely use the BB, but you'll have to add a data plan I'd go with the cheapest ($29.99/month) and then when you get your insurance phone in you can activate that and you'll only be charged a prorated amount for the data plan.

yes if you have an account online just log on and activate it. you will have to pay for bb service at 29.99 for the time you have it tho.

I dont want to seem mean but why not just log in and see if you can do it rather then ask us if you can do it, and then go do it on the website?

I'm sorry for the distress and burden I caused you, midnight. I hope you were able to obtain counseling for this horrible offense I have committed.

At any rate, nothing on Verizon's site explains if you can do this with a phone you didn't purchase from Verizon. At least that I could find. Gee, I guess most questions here could be answered elsewhere ...
