Omnia plan?

Sorry if this question is being repeated. Is a data plan required with this phone? I really would like a Windows Mobile phone, but don't need the data plan. Any suggestions? Thanks

All new devices added to the line up after November 14th require a data plan. You will not be able to activate the phone without it.

You can get a 29.99 data plan for personal email, and 44.99 for corporate email. The 29.99 plan is the minimum data plan you can add if you want to use this phone.

yes you are required to have a data plan. as if verizon's monthly prices werent already high enough, now they feel the need to force data plans upon everyone. ๐Ÿ™„

If you dont need it then dont get the phone.
If you cant afford it then you know where the door is.

I work for verizon and I even think it's rediculous to not give people the choice. Corporate nazis.

Understood and agreed. But Verizon better watch that position in view of today's economic picture. People are cutting out what they don't need and not many people truly NEED the internet on a cell phone. Nobody today can afford to be high and mighty about the prices of anything, including the almighty Big Red.

Actually, I would argue its because of the economics.

When you don't require a data plan, you need to have 2 prices. One with the data plan and one without. When you require the data plan, you can advertise the lower price as the only price.

why is there the need for 2 prices?
vzw doesnt have to give you a discount on the price of the phone just cuz you have a data plan. they only did that so ppl would get the data plan to save a few $$ on the phone.

so they should just say this is the price of the phone. period. if you want a data plan, cool. if not ok.

if you like Omnias for $299 after a $70 rebate, I think you will be in the minority here

or Storms for $299 after rebate or curves for $250 after rebate

Change the pricing to full retail. I wouldn't care. I buy phones outright. That's why it matters to me if they're made well and do what I need them to do. Don't string me up with a stupid data plan I don't need. Just let me buy the phone.

if only the rest of America was more like you.....

but the sad fact is that most can't appreciate technology enough to spend more than $100 or $200 up front

Might be time to head over to AT&T. I don't think they require a data plan with their smartphones. I agree, why force people to purchase a plan they don't need, but they might want the phone.

Yeah, I get a little nervous about the whole AT&T thing, though. I mean until I'm absolutely satisfied that their coverage is better, I can't go there. And as of right now, where I live, it is not better.

Then again, why buy a smartphone if you do not need a data plan?

There are plenty of other options out there for organizers that do not require any form of cell service.

Maybe its time that fanboys stop suggesting an inferior cell service experience in order to create the illusion of saving money. ๐Ÿ™„

Please tell me what the "plenty of other options" are out there for organizers? Are you talking paper and pen? I would like a cell phone that I can call and text with, that has a REAL calendar, some word processing ability, and can sync to my computer. Even if it can't sync to my computer, fine. I'm still hard pressed to find a solution in the cell world. I do not need the internet. Is this such a hard concept for Verizon to grasp? I'm pretty sure it is because this data argument occurs every so many weeks on this forum with people continuing their "why buy a data phone if you don't need data?" Because the other phones are basically crap and don't hold up to real use.

I do have the Centro for exactly the features I cited. And I'm glad I was able to buy it and block the data. But in time it will become impossible to replace a PDA without the data plan if Verizon maintains this stance. And I just think it's foolish unless they're willing to develop a PDA (not smartphone) that doesn't require the plans. I do think there's a market for it, that's all.

I feel the same frustration over here. I have an older Q (with no data plan) and wanted to upgrade but can't do so via the Verizon store without adding this BS new data plan. I just want to sync my outlook calender and contacts (great for keeping track of all my appointments). My solution at this point was to look on eBay for used i760...also noticed that the newer Q (if going to Verizon online) didn't require the data plan last time I looked. I know there are more out there in a similar situation to mine and annoys me that Verizon can do this!

I think you're OK with that one. I think if the phone was released prior to November 14th you can get it and not have the data plan. Phones released after that date require the data plan.

Unfortunately the Omnia has to have a data plan, so no matter how much we want it we cant have it without one.

You could check out the samsung I760, Moto Q9M, XV6800 etc. all of those phones while not as exciting and trendy as the Omnia, have what you asked for.

Well I read through some of the replies but I'm not going through them all to see if what I'm about to write has been addressed already. ๐Ÿคญ
If you want the Omnia get it, sign up for the data plan then a few days laster call VZW customer service and tell them your not using the data side enough to justify the monthly cost. Then ask to be put on a pay-per-use data plan.
If they won't remind them your still within you trial period and other carriers allow pay-per-use data planes with smartphones...say like my carrier ATT.
And as for the gommers who's opinion is you shouldn't get a smartphone if you can't afford (or don't want to pay) for the data plan, what you think the only thing a smartphone is good for is surfn' the net? ๐Ÿคจ
NOT!...

Will not work. Data plan is a requirement to have that phone on the network. So you cannot remove the data plan. Before you haters scream and yell, remember that RIM has always been this way and iPhone has always been that way too.
