is someone out there familiar enough with verizon to know what the cheapest way is to have voice, text and email capabilities? is the $70 voice & data plan the cheapest way out? saw something on t-mobile called "hotspot" for $9.99, looks like pretty good deal, but not crazy about t-mobile. thanks in advance for any comments.

well it depends on how much minutes, how much text, etc you need.

im assuming you are talking about a PDA?

If so first you pick your voice plan:
34.99 for 300 mins and Unlimited n/w
39.99 for 450 mins and unlimited IN and unl n/w

then you pick your text plan:
$5 250 MSG to anyone
$10 Unlimited IN msg / 500 Out of network Msg
$15 Unlimited IN msg / 1500 out of network MSG
$20 get on the Select plan w/ UNL MSG to all in US

then you pick your data plan:
$29.99 Unlimited email/web for personal use
$40+ Unlimited Corp email and personal use plus web (bundled price with 450 minimum)

so, at the lightest if you want txt, mins, and unl data it would be 34.99 + 5 + 29.99 or 69.98

it goes up depending on how much you need.

If you're not talking a PDA but just a normal phone, you might want to look at the new Connect Plans.

basically, for $10 more than a traditional select plan, you can get unlimited emial and data.

So for 450 minutes, unlimited N&W, unlimited IN, unlimited txting, data, and email, you are looking at: 69.99

isn't a smartphone/blackberry data add on charge $30? so if i add that to a $39 plan, it would work out the same ($70) wouldn't it? guess there's no way around it. thanks

The connect plan also gives you unlimited messaging.

to get that on a smartphone, you are looking at 89 a month once all is said and done, but the internet you get and email service is much better.

I have mobile email on my phone. I like it, but Gmail spoils me, and I wish I had full html just for that.

The dare is a great phone. I purchased my last phone Full retail, so that is what kept me from getting it. I use the EnV2, and I love it.

But if looking for a phone that has a full HTML browser, and you're not looking for a smartphone because of the budget, you should seriously consider the dare.

Full HTML, decent speakers, strong signal (I've heard that it isn't as powerful as some of the other phones, but I haven't heard of people losing signal when they call, and even at "only one bar" verizon phones are still pretty strong. The touch screen takes awhile to get used to, but it isn't impossible and is very responsive (not as much as some of the higher end phones, but this can be a good thing if you're not used to them)

I'm also...

That's why I'm not thrilled with VZW, there freakn' expensive.
I use ATT with a smartphone with a pay-per-use data plan. Witch for my is way cheap.
So that might be an option. But I'm sure you'll have to ask several times and maybe call your carriers customer service. Because carriers don't like doing this because they obviously loose money. But they'll do it because they don't want to loose customers.

You can do pay per use on some vzw smart phones, they just have to be non-blackberry's and have a release date before this month.

And for most people, pay per use on MB charges is an arm and a leg rate, especially since you can blow past $30 in less than a minute if you hit a graphics-heavy web site. It was really intended for people who weren't going to use the device for one of it's primary functions.
