can anyone tell me how verizon mobile email is different from data plan email. i'm looking fo a new phone that i can check email without data plan. any suggestions, i like that new omnia, but i think verizon requires a data plan and i don't wan to spend $30 on top of my voice plan. also looking at the lgdare...thanks

Mobile email is not available on PDA phones, its available for flip phones, etc. It's $5 a month (free with premium plans) and uses MBs (which are charged $1.99 per MB) unless you have the premium plan or the $15 Vcast package which covers your data usage.
If you simply want to check and send emails for yahoo, Gmail, etc just use Mobile email.
I use both since I have a Blackberry where I am set up on my corporate email and have the Yahoo and Gmail Apps. I have mobile email on my Samsung Alias and my GF has it on her Env 2. Its very simple to use and more affordable then going the route of a PDA with a data plan.

right you also forgot the new connect plan which is only 10$ a month (vs 20 for vcast and mobile email or premium) and includes mobile email, mobile web, and unlimited MB

thanks for the replies. It's not that I'm too cheap, but I just don't use much of any one feature, so I guess I'm just trying to be wise with my money. I don't think I've ever gone over 300 voice, 100 text a month. That's why I have the basic plan now, but need to add the text and would like to have email. I was actually thinking of getting a wifi phone with AT&T, because I can check email at hotspots when I'm out of town. I can always check emails from work and home on laptop.

You can switch to ATT and get better service and a better phone and get e mail with out a data plan

Mobile email:
- Just email, not Internet (Mobile Web)
- Checks email every 30 minutes, according to specs (I have heard otherwise from random people)
- Get it Now application, not integrated with the OS
- Charges MB at $1.99/MB - see other responses concerning Vcast Vpack vs. Connect plans vs. Premium plans
Email & Web for Smartphone/PDA or Blackberry:
- email + more inclusive Internet (not Mobile Web) + unlimited MB usage
- Checks email every 15 minutes or sooner, live for some users
- Capable of server-based email and PIM
- Integrated with the device, email isn't a secondary application that has to be loaded
Ideally, you should have Mobile Web in addition to the Mobile Email program, or you could be paying more than the PDA...
