Omnia questions

I just saw the phonescoop vid on the omnia and I have a couple of questions maybe someone can answer.
1. Will it play youtube? Is there something on the specifications listing that will always answer this question for me? Maybe Win phones can not play youtube?

2. The specifications for the Omnia on Samsung's website says that it has an FM radio. Will Verizon leave this radio functional

Thx,
Joey

From everything that I have read on the device the FM transmitter will be functional. You will be able to edit, create, view microsoft excel spreadsheets, word documents. I have not seen anything about youtube.. I would assume so with the full html browser.

Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional. Features include a 3.2-inch wide touch display, GPS, stereo Bluetooth, WiFi, and 8 GB of internal memory plus a memory card slot. It has a 5 megapixel camera with auto-focus, geo-tagging, auto-panorama, stabilizer, face detection, smile detection, and video editing. FM radio and auto-rotation round out the features. The Omnia will be one of the first phones able to access Verizon's new VZAppsZone, where users can discover and download third-party content. The Omnia will be available via sales channels starting November 26 and in Verizon Wireless retail stores on December 8. It will cost $250 after rebate with new agreement.

I wonder why it is not mentioned on the website. If Version disables WIFI then it is a deal killer for me and they can stick up where the Storm is

btw it requires a 29.99 minimum data feature as do all new VZW Smartphones. so if you demand wifi because you dont want to pay for data, it has wifi, but your SOL on not paying for data.

We have one in our store. It has wifi. Verizon doesn't "disable" wifi. They just do not require or push for it since they have no network to take advantage of it. Most companies make wifi-free versions of their phones because it cuts down on cost and if verizon won't push the feature, why offer it?

I've had the Omnia i910 since December 19 - have experienced network issues across the board in getting on line and specifically to video on Youtube. I took the first phone back for a replacement today (at Verizon's request)and still can't get directly to Youtube without network error messages. I can get to the site through another site, but it stutters every four seconds while buffering. Also it asked me if I really wanted to run a system command when I was only trying to go to another website. Tech is working on this now - there was a rumor of software issues at Samsung. Has anyone had network issues of this nature or references to a need to update Flash? Love the phone, really, really want this thing to work out.

I have no problem connecting with YouTube, but if you read more postings here, you will notice other network issues. Some are the phone, others may be the vzw network. Sometimes, when I use youtube, the vid will falter midway because the connection is too slow, and the phone will try to call the 777 number again. I have not found this network connection to be particularly stable, since it often has to redial the 777 or I get a message that the network is not available. I have looked at the settings for the Network on the phone, but since there are no instructions, I have left that totally alone.

Thanks for confirming what I've seen to be true. The one time I got through to Youtube, the buffering delay was ongoing and the one peculiarity of the phone is that I'm getting network messages galore. The one that I was getting for Youtube was that the signal strength was weak which backs up everything you said. I called Verizon technical and the woman said that she had gotten an email that there was a software issue somewhere and is looking into it. I gave her all of the error messages - she said she would talk to Samsung and more data people and get back to me. If I learn anything, I'll send it along on this thread. Another thing that I've heard discussed with technical people is that after February when everything goes digital, that thin...

Of course it's 3G. Verizon was using 3G long before (years) Apple made 3G a buzz word.

Now, if you live in the middle of nowhere, there's still a chance that you don't have EVDO (3G) in your area, but it's not a very good chance. If you didn't have EVDO in your area you'd be running at dial-up-esque speeds.
