Bold vs Storm-Verizon vs ATT

Well, I am at odds right now. Loving both of these new devices about to come out but have gotten really frustrated with the delays behind the Bold. Have been checking out the Storm, and though I have been with ATT for several years now, I have heard great things about Verizon. The main reason I have stayed with ATT is because only them and Sprint offered coverage in the small town we are from. But Verizon, not sure when, now offers great coverage in our town. And though we no longer live there, we go home a lot to visit and need to be able to use our phones. Anyhow...I've also recently learned that Verizon offers employee discounts through the company I work for and I've always heard that they are a great network to be on. So now I am...

Well, I'd consider 3 things when switching carriers: Coverage, pricing, and devices/handsets

Coverage: Look for what works where YOU need it. Don't buy the marketing hype about "More Bars in Bangladesh" or "Most Reliable Network" whatever. If it's true that VZW and AT&T both have great coverage in areas you do travel to frequently, then even a die-hard AT&T/iPhone fanboy will confess that CDMA has better call quality and far more 3G coverage on a nationwide basis (and the RIM Storm will work overseas, if that's an issue), for times when you may take and occasional weekend outing to Nebraska or Montana...

Pricing; Right now, the only major difference between VZW and AT&T pricing is Rollover. AT&T has it and VZW doesn't. If you quali...

Wow, thanks, great reply and great things to consider. I have to admit that I am a bigger fan of the querty keyboard over the touchscreen. These devices just don't fascinate me as much as they do everyone else after owning the iPhone. I've owned the Pearl and the Curve and have become quite a fan of the Blackberry.
However, I do love my rollover minutes, and since I don't have a home phone, these can come quite in handy. Also, my husband is military, so there's always the possibility we'll get stationed overseas somewhere and having a gsm phone would be the only option. And yes, 80% of my friends are with ATT.
The thing about treading water on these new products, I think I might feel safer going with the Bold since the touchscreen...

It really depends what you are trying to accomplish. I've used both winmo and BB and for me I like the realiability of the RIM OS.

I've played around bith the bold and it is very very nice. The processor and upgraded memory give it the snappiest OS on a phone I've evern used. I'd be weary of the storms clicking touchscreen Its hard to get better than a physical keyboard on a blackbbery as I'm sure you'll attest as a curve user.

Well, I think that does it for me. I'm gonna go with the bold. I usually dont keep a phone for more than six months, but have had my curve since they were first released last year. I went to the iPhone for about 2 months, but quickly gave it to my husband and went back to the curve as I was annoyed with the touch screen-call me old fashioned. 😉 But I've just heard too many good things about the Bold and can't wait to get my hands on one. How were you able to get to play with one?

I went to a blackberry training a few months ago and the blackberry rep had one. I'm also going to a formal bold training on monday so that should be a good indication that it is coming out soon!

Yayyy!! Will you let me know if they give u an official release date??? Also, when I got my pearl, my contract was still like 4 months from being up, but the rep in store gave it to me at the renewed price anyways. Well, now, my contract is up in Feb. You think they'll slide on it for me again when it comes out in October?? Whats the deal with that anyways? DO they leave it up to the rep if its within a certain amount of time of the renewal??

CellStudent,

That was one of the most informative, and accurate posts about decision making for phones and wireless carriers, and differences between ATT and Verizon. I have both providers myself.

Oops, sorry, I don't know what I googled!! lol. But that just kinda baffles me. WHY would they release a smaller version of the BOLD for Verizon one month later?? There's gotta be something that phone's lacking from the Bold?? But I do like the looks of it.
