I noticed this yesterday and I don't like it either. I thought there was something wrong with my BB and was going to call Tech Support today.

I don't know if it is because I have an older SW verison or what, but my BB Pearl still gives me delivery notification.

Just what do you think that call will do? Nothing but tie up the lines for people who have a real issue.

Right now they are doing it in certain markets. By the end of the month delivery acknowledgement will be disabled on all devices. No checkmark or d for delivered, depending on the phone you have. arearedoicertaimarkets.

I did a little research and found that this is a feature that Verizon is removing. Currently, it has only been removed in certain markets. It was said that this will save Verizon about $65 million each year.

Well, yes of course! That's the only reason VZW or any company is in business..... For financial reasons. 😎

I dont really mind them charging for services, but when you start taking away things, they could have a mutiny on their hands, lol

Text messaging success rate for delivery is 99% plus. There is no real reason to need a delivery notification. They are removing it to free up bandwidth to amke everyone's experience better.

I called Tech Support and they gave me the half assed story that they're removing it market by market due to CUSTOMER REQUEST. He specifically said the East Network Market, which I am in, had the D removed. The tech told me that customers complained about it. Seems to me that you buy a BlackBerry to have better control of your messaging and the D is a control tool. I told him I wasn't buying that story for a second. He told me it will be done in every market, one step at a time. To top it all off he told me it was a network UPGRADE.

EXACTLY! it's actually 99.8%, so the folks saying things like "now I'll never know when my text was delivered" are just being dramatic.

I live in a low signal area, and sometimes my texts or emails will not go through. But there is always a red X that lets me know that I need to resend the message.

Will this be going away as well?

If anyone knows, let me know.

Chris

Yes, that will still be there. It's just the addtional checkmark that will go away when you send messages to VZW customers. Not the one that lets you know if it needs to be resent.

so is it just the little "D" over the check mark that is going away? Or the entire checkmark?

Im still a little confused

On my Curve just the D is gone, Chris. I still have a check mark. Now I wonder if that's on the way out too! And I agree with you - I'll pay for services but I don't like paying the same for less features.

I think the checkmark is a BB OS feature, im not even sure if they could take that away if they wanted to. I dont care about the little D over the checkmark, but taking away the actual checkmark would just be ridiculous.

The checkmark should remain. It is an indicator that the network has accepted the message. The “D” is a delivery confirmation and that is what is going away. As for the red “X”, that means that the message has failed for whatever reason and will remain, as it is a phone feature not a network feature.

Hope that helps.

Ok. I can live without the D. But I agree with Chris; there has to be notification if a txt fails to go through. What I won't accept is if they do away with the ability to send and receive Read receipts on emails.

Timeclock (It is in the process of sending)
Checkmark (It has been sent to the BB server)
Checkmark+D (It has been delivered to the other device)
Checkmark+A [not R] (It has been acknowledged by the other device [It has been read])

You can tell when someone actually read a BB message you sent them and vice versa.
