I just got my LG vx8700 replaced via asurion. What a joke..... I have been a verizon customer for nearly 8 years in a row. I have had several phones and this is the first one that I dropped and it was damaged so I sent it in and paid my $50. The phone I got in the mail for My $50 and $6 per month for the last 8 years is not even a LG 8700 .. It looks like one but, up close, no LG logo, Numbers are tacky and not smooth like before, hinge is weak and squeeky unlike my original which was smooth. The screen looks a little different and I swear the software is slower. I even weighed the new one at work comparing it to the orignal and the asurion one was lighter by 5 grams. To top it off it slid off the table when I got home and hit the gro...

Illinois.

I just got off the phone with Asurion again and they are sending me another phone. He said they are requesting me to be sent a brand new phone, but, since that phone is discontinued I may not be able to get one new. We will see thursday. 😕

Hey coaster, you have you email blocked on here but if you hit my name and contact user you can email me. Just let me know what city in ILL you are in so i can direct you to the nearest store. This will not save you this time around but next time you get a phone it will help big time. I know of an insurance that will blow away asurian and they offer Brand NEW in store replacements, and if you model is discontinued they give you a new phone of equal value(or if you are maried to an old model they can find you a refurb if you want) but 99% will just take a new model. I would post it on here, but i really don't want to pimp a particular store on this site, but don't worry i live in ohio so I am not directing you towards me either

Verizon sells the insurance and earns a profit from the sale. This is an appropriate forum to post in.

I'm not actually sure if Verizon does profit from the insurance. The commission-based employees certainly don't. It might just be a convenience thing that Verizon offers to customers so that the customer doesn't have to hunt for insurance on his/her own or be completely screwed if they lose their phone. It gives Verizon the option to say, "Well, you could have had insurance," instead of just, "You're f*cked."

If they make any profit on insurance, I'm sure it's minimal.

That was prob because it was the stores own insurance they had contracted with a 3rd party company not Asurian. The regular insurance VZW has available with Asurian is not comissionable.

No, it was asurian and it was paid out back in the day..it was not much I think we got 3.99, or 4.99 for selling it. If you don't think asurian compensates Verizon when they sell their service your are nuts, at one point in time Verizon just stopped passing the buck. I have also worked places that sell thrid party and some destroy asurian.

It might change depending on your area, but I can tell you that Verizon sales reps in the western region receive commission on the $5.99 insurance plan (Total Equipment Coverage - Asurion + in-house extended warranty), and have for several years now.

They do not, in the west, receive commission on the $4.99 Wireless Protection Plan insurance (Asurion only).

Think with your money glasses:

1) Why would a rep want to sell insurance if they didn't get some sort of payout.

2) Why would Verizon sell Asurion's insurance program if they weren't getting a piece of the action?

It's like asking your Allstate or State Farm agent if he or she sells insurance without compensation. Do you think they'd even bother to be in business if they...

Indirects get no commision on the Principle level. Asurion is a joke anyways.. I've had customers with the 8700 have a piece of crap gleam sent out, they don't even get a choice on a diff model.

Heres the deal people....I work for a cell phone insurance company and am a loyal customer of Verizon. If you actually pay attention and read your insurance agreement it clearly states a "like or comparable model". What that means is that if they dont have your phone in stock then they will give you the comparable model which will have equal features. You should go to asurion.com and click on handset replacement program. You should really pay attention to what you are buying.
It doesnt matter that you have been paying $6 a month in insurance for however many years, everything has a deductible. Pay attention to what your money is going to and you wont have this problem.

Go to a corp store and ask for the manager and tell him the same thing you mention in your post. Or call Asurion and ask for a supervisor and tell them you are not at all happy with the replacement that you have been sent. They are obligated to give you a legitimate replacement. Please be persistent but nice about it, you will eventually get Asurion to send you a NEW handset and not a refurbished unit.

Not true. There's a policy for replacing insurance replacements in-store, but it's subject to specific criteria in that the store has to have some sort of comparable phone in stock that's designated as a replacement, and they need to discuss the matter with Asurion.

Obviously, this isn't for the initial replacement, but for a replacement for the replacement that Asurion sends you, as they realize that not everyone can just wait for the insurance company to ship you another phone, even with it being overnighted. I'm actually a bit shocked at some of the replacements that I've dealt with, as I'm surprised that customers receive phones in such a condition as they've described.

UPDATE:

I got the second phone from them today and it seems to be legit though there are a couple of slight differences from my original 8700. It feels like my orignal and seems more solid and has the LG logo on it. I cannot believe the first one they sent me. It was just like those fake purses the ladies buy. It was a "Look alike cell phone" Really, that bad. Honest here.
Thanks. All over now.

Except now, that I have been to the store I like the EnV2 and the Glare. Hmm full retail worth it? 😕

I've had like problems with Asurion. After several attempts at lackluster replacements they agreed and did send me a new phone of a different model. I was happy but it took nearly two months to resolve the issues.

Yah I had the same problem with them last year too. I had to get a replacement and they sent me a crappy refurbished phone that sounded worse than if you was talking in a hollow box. I called and complaigned and they did send me a brand new phone that came in the verizon packaging instead of their packaging..I decided to cancel the insurance it's not worth the hassle...if something happens I'll just buy a new phone.
