America's Choice plan vs. Nation plan

I have been with Verizon for the last 5 years. I used to own an e815 by Moto (I think that was the company) now I have the original Env.
I have been out of contract for over 6 months now and I have the $39.99 America's choice plan with $5.00 for 250 msg text and another $5.00 for mobile web.
My question is this, if I get a new phone and renew my contract, I was told I would have to pay $1.99 everytime I used my phone for Mobile Web is that true? Since I am on an older plan it just comes off my minutes.
I went to my local Verizon store to check out the Glyde and the Voyager, both thse phones to me seem to be glorified versions of my Env. I saw the Dare today it looked interesting and got to play with it. But I don't think it w...

I totally understand your concern. The fact is, you may indeed stay on the America's Choice calling plan, and still use your minutes when accessing the mobile web. However, if it is one of the newer phone's that tickle your fancy, and you want full HTML browsing capabilities, you will have to migrate to the Nationwide calling plan. As for the $1.99 charge for Mobile Web, that is the charge per megabyte. If you think you will use the web alot, then opt for the V Cast subscription, which gives you unlimited access to the mobile web and the get it now catalog. Hope this answers your question.

I check my yahoo email from my phone while I am at work. In "layman's terms" how would I know how many megabytes would I be using by checking my email? By the way I don't download music, or anything else. All I do on mobile web is check my yahoo email accounts and the weather reports (animated radar displays).

If my Env had a bigger front display, it would of been the perfect phone! The only reason I gave up my E815 (which I loved) is that it didn't qwerty board on it. The battery on my Env last for days, it's unreal!

Basically the megabyte usage is how much data is sent from your phone to Verizon and from Verizon to your phone. Logically, text such as emails and basic websites will take up a whole lot less than a picture file or a video. If you wanted to read emails on your phone I would first recommend the mobile email application for you. Although it is lacking when it comes to overall quality. Also if you did anything regarding emails, please subscribe to VCast. This will prevent you from data overages. Although when the dust settles, best option is to press #DATA on your phone to get updates on how much information you are sending back and forth.

Hope that helps a little

While the same exact post came up previously I believe under another name that was pretty much labeled a troll I will answer this one in hopes it's an honest question not just intending to ruffle feathers.

Basically if you use mobile web A LOT, stay on America's choice. Thing is it's not 1.99 EACH time you use it, but it can get costly. The general estimation is 50 - 100 mobile web pages depending on the sites you use and the kilobytes needed to load them.

What I would do is go into your My Verizon, Analyze the data calls in detail (7770000001 or something like that) see if maybe you can drop your plan because you are using so much mobile web. People like to think it's not possible but I've seen it happen. So if you can drop your m...

I don't think anyone has mentioned that the $5.00 charge you're currently paying for Mobile Web access every month is reduced to $0.00/month on Nationwide plans. "Access" to the mobile web is part of the plan at no additional fee. You pay only for what is used, rounded up to the next full MB. If you're just doing standard Mobile Web or mobile optimized sites (and view less then 200 pages/month), you'll likely pay less then $5 a month in megabyte charges, so you may actually save money.

If you want a Dare/Voyager/Glyde then do yourself a favor and get the $15 package.

I want to say thank you to rjsumthin, you helped me a lot on this issue. I think I'll stay with the phone and plan that I am on now.

P.S. I want to say thanks to the other person who also contributed with info, though I didn't copy and paste your name here.

Have a great week!

Port out for the hardware you want for the 2/3 of life you are not in that building.....

Buy a pay as you go CDMA phone for work or just give those who would call you at work your work phone number, I certainly would not SIGN a contract for a phone that I am happy with only at work!!

Yeah open source......Well we all have to see Verizon's definition of that...
