Veriaon and NAshville.......Not good

AvgJoe

Jun 24, 2008, 10:47 AM
Just came back from bus trip in Nashville. A coworker had no less than 3 dropped calls per day on his Verizon phone. Had to find windows to make calls.

Needless to say I thought about the reliable coverage everywhere and had to laugh.....

You I'm used to dropping calls now and then using GSM. Its a given. But he is not and needless to say he is porting out for a GSM carrier because he loved my phone and (in Nashville anyway)I was making calls from deep inside the convention center while he stood outside doing the same...

Many people don't even KNOW there is a viable alternative to Verizon phones and service.

Is Nashville a typically bad area for Verizon? I know for a fact Atlantic City NJ is not so great.

Nah...Nokia rules my world. Until something better comes along. Actually I was surprised he had these issues at first then I remembered another trip to Atlantic City with another Verizon user.

We did use the Voice nav of his phone on the way (becasue he was paying for it anyway) I did like the voice nav calling out the freeway and street names. My Nokia doesn't do that. (But it does not cost me $10 a month either).

Vince Young, Coach Fisher, and Lendale White have VZW and they seem to be doing fine.

When Jevon Kearse moved from Philly to Nashville, he had to port from T-Mobile to VZW because he couldn't get any coverage.

Pacman Jones at the Nokia N95. He had to leave Nashville and go to Dallas because he had no service.

My point is I KNOW ATT drops calls and desnt have great coverage everywhere. ATT does not tout itself as the most reliable......Verizon does. Therefore it should be..especially in major population areas inside and out.

That's my point. My expectations with ATT are met because the...

Ahh, I understand exactly what happened. Your friend needed to update his PRL.. the *228 thing.

Your friends phone was working only on the PCS band (1700-1900) and that has extremely poor building penetration and is extremely susceptible to interference, hence the draw for the 700 mhz band. I bet your friend had really good EVDO coverage but crap 1x.

Well thats a crap response if I ever read one.

But you do bring up a metric I would love to know:

What is the total call volume, non-sales, that ATT, Sprint, and Verizon recieve each day. Then I would love to know what the call back percentage is for said volume over a 30 day period.

What model VZW phone?

Up-to-date PRL?

I started on VZW with an LG 510 I borrowed just to get the heck away from AT&T. Overall, it was the WORST phone I ever had...super slow...looking up contacts took so long, I could take out my Palm Pilot and look up a contact faster than the phone could find it...dropped calls.

Then I got a Motorola E815...the BEST reception of any VZW phone I've had. Even in a friend's client's server room where radio waves seemed to get eaten, my E815 worked great, while all other phones failed...Sprint, T-Mobile, AT&T, and three VZW phones.

Yes, VZW claims to have the most reliable network, and overall, at least in my experience, it has been. VZW does not claim to cover every inch of the USA, but I would ex...

You really think a TIE makes someone LOOK professional in today's day and age? I think it makes a call phone hawker look like a car salesman. They wear ties too!!

Sorry wearing a tie and selling cell phone service is the very definition of pearls on a sow.

By the way, I'm not a "professional tie wearing phone geek" that sells phones. I'm an unshaven, phone tech that doesn't tuck in his shirt. I guess you'd think I'm CEO material then, huh?

I fix the phones that people like you take for granted.

You like your Nokia N-series. Great. They're really nice phones. I don't think anyone will dispute that with you.

You sound like some of my customers. The annoying ones that get mad at me and give me attitude because THEY broke their phone or dropped it into some kind of liquid. Then they proceed to get mad at me, or even blame ME for the damage that their phone has. You sound just like them.

Fairly recently, I took a drive from Nashville to Huntsville with my bro on the phone with his gf. He was on a black berry pearl, verizon.

He had to get off the phone 15 minutes outside Huntsville for a call he started in Nashville due to the battery dying. Call never dropped or had signal issues.

I suppose now you'll just whine about battery life. Then again, you said you were in finance and investments so...considering the current state of the economy due to morons like you making financial decisions, I suggest you find a new career and stop being a closet VZW fan boy. Are perfectly fine. Murfreesboro (20 miles outside of nashville) is the most profitable store in the southern market of Verizon Wireless period. I live outside of nashville about 10 minutes, drive through nashville all the time, go drinking in nashville, all the time, my father works in nashville, my room mate works in nashville. Verizon pretty much owns at&t in every sense of the word here except for maybe in very few areas, and I speak from experience. I have NEVER, EVER dropped a single call in TN. With Cingular when I did work for them and even on after til recently about a year ago, I dropped about 6 - 8 calls a day not exxagerating.

the guy may have had a crappy phone, it don't matter who you're with, ever carrier has a lemon on the market. I've been with Verizon for years and I've run into a bad phone here and there (Moto V710 being the worst lol) I went to a ATT store one time thinking about trying them out and me and my fiance couldn't find one we liked or had good voice quality. We liked what Verizon offered better and the voice quality that Verizon had. And if I switched to ATT I would have gave up stuff I like.
