Very true, but you can see there are some overlaps so of course, divestitures would be in order. Yea, very cool

Any guess as to who would be the most likely companies to buy up the overlap areas?

Sprint could really benefit im guess.. but their slow dive is really costing them right now.. so i don't think they're even a player

I don't that Sprint has the money right now to buy up too much, assuming that Verizon would sell off the overlap areas several different carriers. Is US Cellular a strong enough company to buy up some of those areas?

I'm in montana where Verizon/Alltel are basically the only two carriers... i can't think of anyone other than sprint that would gain from acquiring the overlap... sprint seems like the logical choice, but like we both said... they got no dough

I know of what you speak - I'm in North Dakota, but here in the eastern part of the state we have a few carriers. That's why I am curious about US Cellular. I believe they use mostly CDMA, but I don't know enough about them to know if they can afford to buy up some of these areas.

Sprint has plenty of dough. $5B actually.

Sprint has $5B in cash so that’s not such a big deal. The problem, though, is that they don’t need a lot of spectrum if any more. The FCC and other regulators might not like that. You never know though because if Sprint can get some of the rural areas or overlapping areas then yes Sprint will be able to purchase some spectrum in those areas.

US Cellular can.

T-mobile, a smaller company or AT&T. probably AT&T.

why would at&t pick up a CDMA network? Or were you just talking about the spectrum?
...

Spectrum is so valuable that whenever you can get it the company needs to do so. That could lead to another carrier or two in those areas.

k.. no we're on the same page, can't say i would understand At&t making that move... but they may have to

Yes. Just looking by the naked eye yes but there could be more. Looking at the “asset sheet” of both would be even better. Stay tuned as when the regulators will look at the merger they will provide a very detailed (probably 100 pages or so like the AWE/Cingular merger) of what those kind of issues. Should be interesting.

Oh and Vodafone needs to approve this deal also.

NO its really big for Verizon. Those customers will not be getting anything they don't already have!! In fact they may be getting less if Verizon eliminates My Circle and services those customers are already used to...

LOL, poor Joe/BB2709. His face is puckered from all the sour grapes he's having to eat now that ATT will be #2. 😁

He'll b*tch and cry about it 'til the end of time, but there's nothing he can do about it. 🤣

The only way they could would be an acquisition... but who they gonna buy?

T-Mobile? Nope. Deutsche Telekom has said they won't sell.

Sprint? LOL, good luck with that one. Incompatible technologies, and Sprint's a total basket case. Actually, if you're an ATT-hater, you hope ATT tries to buy Sprint. 🤣

US Cellular? Won't give you 9M customers. And, incompatible technologies. That's always fun, as Sprint and Nextel found out the hard way.

MetroPCS? Ditto.

Cricket? Ditto.

Virgin, Boost, Qwest? Ditto, ditto, and ditto.

There's just no good options there. If the feds approve the merger, and it looks like...

nice, that really sells home the benefits. I was surprised they plan on havin 28 billion of the purchase paid for and out of debt in 2 years...that is insane amounts of money to pay back that fast. They are really going to fill in some network holes with this as well

Well they hope so. They said they would have $9b in total synergies so that is a great amount against the purchase price plus when you combine Verizon’s net profit they should be able to pay for this purchase within a few years which is great. Now, they just have to execute on this. Divestitures would be a big play so we shall see how that works out.

I noticed a portion of Northern Wisconsin, where Verizon is showing Alltel having coverage, and they don't have coverage in a portion of Northern Wisconsin. Some of that shaded area is Cellcom, and unless they plan to buy them too, then the map is wrong to show Alltel coverage around Wausau as an example.

It'll be interesting to see what areas Verizon plans to keep and what they divest when the Unicel buyout is official, as that has overlaps with Alltel. Also for areas where Alltel currently holds both cellular licenses, if both of those licenses will be retained by Verizon, or divested.
