I am currently due for an upgrade on my phone. I currently have the LG 8600 phone but am looking for one of those smart phones. The thing is I am not too sure whats good or not good. Can someone give me some suggestions? I am looking for a good all around phone with a qwerty keyboard.

Thanks

you're going to get a lot of people recommending the Blackberry curve and I am going to be one of them.

Blackberry currently makes the simplest, and most user friendly smartphone devices. Make sure that you are also aware of the additional cost of a smartphone. BB's will cost you a minimum of $24.99/month added to your bill. Some of the other windows mobile or palm devices dont require a data plan.

The palm 755p is also a solid device and the new palm centro is supposed to be out by mid summer.

Yeah I dont know about the Crackberry. I am not going to be using enterprise email. I was looking for something like Verizon Wireless XV6900 or something similar. Blackberrys are used mainly for enterprise email and frankly i dont want to know whats going on at work when im not there.

Had to add this:

Blackberries are used for Enterprise mail but you do no have to use it for that. I have so many friends who have one and just use it for there own personal use...
Plus, the ability to send an almost unlimited size text message for free (included) to other users is priceless.

The unlimited plan for personal use is $29.99 if on an enterprise server it will cost $49.99 they also offer a $24.99/10MB plan I would suggest to take advantage of the 30 day trial period to see how you like it. I would suggest the Curve as well I own the device and truly love it

Wow, well you will certainly get a lot of opinions here. Having migrated from the 8700 to a Blackberry, I am convinced it is the only way to go. Family members here have the Samsung SCH i760 and it is a fair phone but klunky to use and someone else had the Moto Q and that was horrible. These phones use Windows Mobile 6.whatever to operate and in my opinion, there are too many steps required to...

The way you describe it you make it sounds so wonderful. I am torn. I am slowly leaning towards a bb. I never thought I would get one of those devices. Here's the thing though. I am not elegible for my new every 2 til january but I am elegible for my annual upgrade now.

So what do I do?

So for the Curve, it is 299.00 or 249.00 and you possibly get a 50 dollar mail in rebate.

For the new every 2 you'd get a $100 dollar data credit but you'd have to wait till you are 20 months into you contract.

That price I quoted is promotional pricing which is what you can get after your 10th month into your contract.
Check the promo price, I am not sure f it is 249 or 299 but either way you g...

Like I said, I have owned:

Blackberry 9751 original with no phone
Blackberry 7130e
Blackberry 8830 (current)

Family members have owned:
The Q
Samsung 760 (works the same as the 9600)

Their comments are always.... my plan is eligible, I am going to dump my smartphone and get a Blackberry."
Also - once you get used to doing your e-mail on it, you tend to use your PC/Mac less because you are always in touch real time.

The prices you quoted are a pretty good deal and I'd say go for it but that has to be your decision...lol 🙂

Yes it is.
RIM makes very solid phones and their quality control is very good. You won't be disappointed.

It takes a few days to get used to the Blackberry but once you have it mastered (believe me it is NOT difficult)you will never want to give it up.

I just wanted a qwerty keyboard and basic calendar functions. Had a BB Pearl, it was well built and actually scared me a little with all that it did. It was easy to use, but I ended up taking it back. For messaging with a full qwerty, mobile web (not HTML), and some nice features, you can look at the Glyde, the Env, & Env2. The other smartphone/pdas (other than BB) don't require the extra monthly data plan, but Windows Mobile can be tricky and slow if you really care about using that or the internet regularly.

You should also get the $100 advanced data credit for adding the email and web for blackberry, just remember that also comes with a monthly $30 data charge. I am also a BB user and I have to say it is one of the best advanced devices out there. The phone is easy to use and has very few problems, in the 4 years I have been with VZW I think I have had to help 2 people with problems, both were fixed within a 5 min call to tech, and there has been a huge surge of BB sales since the Pearl was released in November.

I really dislike all Windows Mobile devices, they had sooooo many problems. The software is just not as good as it should be. Comparing BB and Windows Mobile is like comparing PC and Mac, how often do you hear complaints about PC? No...

So does that $100 come off at the time of purchase? It could potentially be cheaper if I get that package your talking about?

I am kind of at a cross roads. Part of me wants to splurge on a BB and part of me is saying to just go with a new cellphone. Basically I was always under the impression that BB were mainly used for enterprise customers? I would feel stupid buying a BB and not using it for enterprise email as it was intended. I have alot to consider

Thanks for the suggestions

You wrote "I currently have the LG 8600 phone but am looking for one of those smart phones.... I am looking for a good all around phone with a qwerty keyboard."

I'm not sure that you've indicated what your needs are. Do you REALLY NEED a "smartphone" as defined here:

https://www.phonescoop.com/glossary/term.php?gid=131 »

Or, would you be best served by a good PHONE with a QWERTY keyboard?

Here are Verizon's current phones, with QWERTY keyboards, that do not require you to have a $29.95 per month add-on plan:

Well I want a phone that has great internet access. I can get my personal email on it as well as having an organize for appointments a tip calculator, something that obviously customizable with ringtones and pictures oh and of course has to have great call quality. The more I hear people talk about it the more I want a BB Curve for Verizon Wirless.

BlackBerrys are awesome. If you want a teen/kid phone, get a voyager or enV. Treo's are alright, I prefer BlackBerrys because they are freaking business savvy it's like, hey, hold on, let me finish a quick email on my sexy BlackBerry Curve.

They work really well as well. But I don't know, maybe a Treo would be a better choice as they have better suppourt for Windows documents and files.

*Bottom Line:*
You can't go wrong with any BlackBerry or Treo.

yeah normally i would agree with you, but i mostly use my Curve for reading my emails, and very little replies, and those replies are often kept to a short line or two..so i think i could easily get by with it...plus i was reading on hofo that the touch screen for typing will be much larger then the iphone for example..who knows how they get this info..we shall see..but i for one im excited about it.
