I Escaped From The Big Red Matrix

FrudOut

May 14, 2008, 3:40 PM
It's time for the big red apple skin to be peeled off and expose that it's beginning to rot.

It's absolutely nothing wrong with the network, or the phones. The problem is the incompetent leadership which goes all the way to the top. A befuddling disregard for employees personal lives, and a disgustingly haughty attitude will be what lumps them together with massive corporations who they claim to battle against. "Fighting beauracracy". Please...

If you have hit a glass ceiling get out right now because you are not going anywhere. Did you enjoy our 29% paycut this year? How about your new quota? Look how they rewarded you for making money for them and yourself. Now it's impossible to reach your goals. Oh look you hit a decelerator, no mo...

Not fired haha, I left for another company. The company just seemed to be spiraling into mindless strategies and ridiculous expectations. And to be forced to go to meetings full of drivel and nonsense on top of working the ridiculous hours was too much. I realize working retail means you work weekends and things but would you like to work the night shift every day for a month? Would you like to be told when you are sick and have available sick days that you must come anyway? Or have your lines nearly stolen by a manager and given to another rep? Oh man I cant believe I never have to go to another Jam Session again! The person who writes those things is stealing money from the company. Its a completely bloated position that could be filled by...

I'm sorry to hear your frustrations. I have worked for VZW corporate for almost three years and havenever been to a "Jam Session" and have no idea what "Slamming" is. I do know that not all managers are the same and sometimes you get a sucky one. I'm fortunate to work for one of the good ones (who unfortunately for me, will most likely be promoted to DM soon). Bad managers and bloated corporations exist everywhere, not just in wireless.

Like we keep saying to all the customers on here, don't judge the entire company by one sales rep, and don't judge the business by one crappy manager. I hate to see a fellow soldier fall; I wish you luck in your new endeavors.

Go work for at&t and tell us different. I had five conf calls a week and was almost forced to make my employees auto attach features and do very shady stuff. Now I work for VZ and work less and make more, never get bitched at for service issues, and love my job.

I thought the name would be fitting hahaha. I cant tell you how many heated discussions I got into with customers over those Fru phones. If there is a God he will make all Razr's and Old Chocolates just vanish. Are you serious you have never been to a Jam Session?? The mandatory 7 a.m. teeth grindingly dreadful meeting every Friday rain, sleet, snow, or death (I wish I was making up the death part)? Get on your knees and thank God if thats true. Btw if you dont know what slamming is, it is putting data services on customers accounts without their knowledge or with minimal disclosure to boost your numbers.

Aha! "Jam Session" equals "Friday Free For All" in the Midwest area. You are right, they are not a lot of fun, but are sometimes entertaining. We mix it up a little by combining with other stores regularly which is cool. Not my fave thing (nor my managers), but at least we get paid for it (a couple hours of guaranteed overtime a week isn't horrible).

29% paycut? Dude what the hell did you screw up 🤣 I didn't see a decrease, I saw a hefty increase. As for quota...what sales rep DOESN'T complain about quota? It's part of commission sales...deal with it. Go ask a car salesman how much quota can suck. Better yet...ask someone at Radio Shalack...they will give you a true account of how horrible commission sales can be.

But I do have to agree...the name is great. As for Test Man aiming a sniper...can you hear me now? *gun loading*......good

I will get the equation from someone I know still has a copy of it. I was making good money like you but it was not worth it when I came in every day dreading work. You are completely right in that high tier sellers are rewarded but its not the same at all. The equation was passed around via email to a bunch of reps and effectively pissed off a bunch of reps. I am sure we were in different regions and perhaps things are different for you. If you are happy and feel the sky is the limit for you then keep doing what you are doing. For me I honestly would have rather sat through the worst insurance seminar than gone back to my store. Further I understand quotas rise but when I am specifically told to stop selling a service because Im making the ...

Let me say to any customer that my outburst here again is not against the service. I still have Verizon and while it is expensive, you get what you pay for. It is in my opinion the best hands down. I and others have no problem selling because the phones and service sell themselves. The only thing I wish they could offer is better prepay options. Thats where we would lose customers especially with competitors who offered global pre pay, which is just the thing for folks going on vacation. The obscenely expensive rental program needs to be abolished and retooled to be more customer friendly. However with the economy continuing to go downhill people are going to care less about their phone cutting out every once in a while and care more about p...

Not to get off the point here, but the Global rental or Global Traveler program was changed- if the person is going to a GSM area overseas, they can "borrow" a global device and just pay the roaming minutes used and then return the device.
Here is the info from the VZW website.

The Global Travel program is the perfect short-term solution for the occasional or infrequent global traveler who needs to stay in touch when traveling internationally. This program is ideal when your travel duration is less than 21 days.

Features & Benefits
• No daily rental fees

• No security deposit

• Keep your regular phone number and Voice Mail and transfer your contact list using Backup Assistant

• All on your Veriz...

My experience with VZW has been awful, and I'm putting in my two weeks notice very soon. The sales people are corrupt, the managers are even worse, and the company is constantly looking for (and finding!) ways to screw their employees AND their customers. I have a feeling it's only going to get worse.

I'm about fed up with sales in general, this just isn't my game.

Oh, sweet, the website went down so I have an unexpected break.

Anyway, I hate that my performance has to be based on sales when I'm just not good at sales... I wish we could do customer care online, because I would rock that.

Anyway.

Thats a shame you didnt get to learn how to sell well. That sounds like none of your managers took the effort to teach you. It can get pretty cutthroat and you can end up getting pip'd out if you dont keep up your numbers. If I took anything away from Verizon I did learn some very good selling skills. However I ended up reading more about dealing with difficult managers than how to sell. However when Im told to sell six unnecessary accessories to every customer I really dont care about selling. In fact one month I purposely did not sell to my full potential so that my managers did not get a bonus, and spent my energy making money with my friends business. You can only imagine how furious they were. When you start acting like that you know it...

Well at least people can agree that Verizon has a great network. I left Verizon, found out that the grass wasn't greener on the other side, came back to Verizon and love it. As for working with Verizon, I don't have experience with that, but what I can say is: Business is business, there is hardly such thing as 100% honest business anymore. Look at all the other carriers... "we're bigger, we're better, we have more bars, we're faster or more powerful" ...it's like a broken record. So if there are corrupt managers or sales reps then hopefully they'll get whats coming to them. Look at the bright side, if you work for Verizon at least you're working for a business thats not a sinking ship like Sprint. You have a job. And your job is pre...

In fact, they taught me more on how to sell the phones than the actual phones themselves.

I feel ya man. I remember the golden days 2-3 years ago when renewals counted torwards multipliers. Oh man I was making bank then.

VZW has been cutting commission checks for quite a couple of years. First they decreased the tier payouts, then they eliminate the renewals towards multipliers. I jumped ship right before they revamped the commission payouts to be in a form of rollout dollars. Seriously, I couldn't take anymore changes, especially to my check.

The truth is that VZW retail sales employees were making too much money (including myself, I was making $40K+ a year working 30 hours a week while going to school full time). The executives of VZW were thinking to themselves - "why are we paying our reps this much money if the r...

kudos to those who left these greedy company. I too started my beginning from sales rep to a manager for one of the top 5 store in ny metro. But i too left because of the ridiculous way they treat their retail companies. and the useless responsibilities they force upon u. and now i just hope this company crumbles to the ground..

and the end of era is coming.. 3g Iphone is about to be released.. and those who are stll stuck in the big red matrix.. I urge u to disconnect.. Escape while you can..

charlie Handy is gone.. Rick Conrady is out..just can't wait for the matrix to crumble.

Why would you leave verizon? The managers have made me so much money. The managers are the biggest hustlers ever. If the consumer knew how bad the stores where they would think twice before going with the big red matrix. Its great to sell a consumer a peace of **** with a 2 yr contract.
