I have a lg vx 4400 that I got in dec 2003...can I still add insurance on it? I don't need to file a claim now but I went to a store to see about upgrading and they told me I could not upgrade until oct 2005 or I would have to pay full retail...so that got me thinking what it something happens to my phone before then? Thanks for you input.

New rules in effect in most markets now prohibit adding insurance more than 15 days after purchase.

If something happens to your phone, you have a few options available to you:

1. Some markets are offering refurbished phones without a contract renewal. They are usually low-end phones, like a VX-3100. Pricing is around $25.

2. Buy a phone on e-Bay. (And maybe get ripped off.)

3. In some markets, you can do an "early upgrade" if you have had your phone for over a year, and you are on a plan or move up to a plan that is at least $59.99/month. (Of course, you can always lower the plan a few months later if you don't need that many minutes anymore.)

4. Bend over and pay $250 for a phone that other people are buying for $49.99.

Also, when you pay full retail price. FOR GOD SAKE ADD INSURANCE! I try to tell people that insurance is a good idea, and they always decline it. Then my next call will always be the guy who threw his phone in the ocean, doesn't have insurance, and wants me to give him a brand new free phone.
Buy insurance, or be prepared to pay $200+ for a new phone.

Thanks for all the great info....When I got my phone I was not aware that you have to be within the last two months of your contract to upgrade. I work for attws/cingular and our policy at attws we would have let you upgrade after the third month of having the phone...now the discounts are not as much as after one year but we did take some off the retail price. But now that Cingular has taken over and we have the same policy on upgrading as you do... with one exception if the customer states they are "totally disatisfy" with their equipment....then a sup can over ride the policy. Anyways! I hope I don't run in to any bad luck with my phone 😕 Thanks !
