Question for the Uber Geeks

I am an indirect agent for VZW. I am getting more and more people coming in asking how they can keep people from reading their text messages online. They are hearing that it is possible and that their husband/wife/partner/whatever can do (or has been doing) this. I heave heard that you can, but it costs a couple hundred dollars.
My question: Is this even possible? I have been telling people not to worry that it's not possible. Am I misleading them? VZW claims it's not a possibility. Is there a site out there that these people are using? If so does anyone have any information on it?

Won't happen as long as they're using the Verizon network to send text/picture messages. You're probably getting customers who heard if from a friend who got it from another friend who received an email one day...

There is a program called IM sniffer that can intercept IM on a computer with multiple users, they may be confusing this type of messaging with text messaging.

Additionally, there have been articles floating around stating that there is a firmware download you can place on the intended victim's phone that will allow you to intercept text messages, provided you are on the same provider and channel.

Unfortunately there is no way to read text messages online through My Accont or on your bill. There is a program out there (third party) that is said to send a duplicate copy to their phone if it is installed on the persons phone that they are trying to monitor. I believe it is from mykidssafe.com or something of the nature.

New software was announced today that will give parents a tighter degree of control over their children's cell phones in the hopes of protecting them. MyKidisSafe is a suite that allows parents to control mobile phone use while driving, scan messages for evidence of bullying and objectionable words, as well as restrict cell phone use during school or sleeping hours. The software is managed via a web portal, and is fine-tunable so that kids may use phones during their lunch breaks, as well as add people to a "safe list" of permitted contacts. The software is available for download, though MyKidisSafe is talking to carriers about offering it through other parental control services.

The only software I've ever seen was designed for PDA phones. It duplicates messages received and sent. It either uses text messaging to send that duplicate message, or more likely it uses a data session to connect to a host that stores the messages in a database for you to retreive later.
