LTE Scores; UMB Doesn’t
By Brad Smith
WirelessWeek - November 29, 2007
Verizon Wireless delivered the old one-two punch this week. First, declaring it will open its network to devices and applications in the coming year. And now, deciding to align itself with the GSM world by picking the Long Term Evolution (LTE) technology for its 4G network.

The LTE decision is not unexpected since Verizon Wireless has been rumored to have been looking at the air interface standardized by the GSM world’s 3GPP standards body. Also, using LTE will bring Verizon Wireless together with its Vodafone part-owner (Verizon Wireless is a joint venture of Verizon and Vodafone).

Still, Verizon W...

Looks like the guy who predicted the at&t verizon merger might be right after all! This could be a good thing for the consumer as you would have coverage anywhere.

You mean the guy who got banned for making racist remarks? Nah. 🤣

He's not right. Just 'cuz Verizon and ATT may eventually be using the same tech doesn't mean anything regarding a merger. VZW, Sprint, Alltel, and US Cellular all use the same tech... have they merged? How about T-Mobile and ATT? Same deal. 😳

you are joking right? vzw and at&t merging would be a monopoly, the FCC would shoot that down immediatly. also neither company is interested in merging as both are doing just fine on their own.

CDMA works just fine for what it does. And it, just as the current incarnation of GSM, would have been gone anyways.

LOL... CDMA will likely last longer than anything of its generation.

Look at the GSM side... for 3G, it uses CDMA as its air-interface. Hence 'WCDMA'/UMTS.

Far as iDEN goes, it'll be gone altogether pretty soon. So much for your screen name.

Don't worry too much though, before long we'll all be either OFDM (LTE) or WiMax. Even UMB has OFDM in it.

Dude, this has nothing to do with a merger. The Justice Department would never allow a merger of any significance to happen between these two companies in their present state.

In this case, YES.

And what does your comment have to do with the fact that the DOJ and FCC would never allow a merger of this type?
